    Jon released new version 1.18

    Changelog:
    • Fixed PPPoE may exit instead of retrying during a connection attempt.
    • DHCP (udhcpc) logging is now optional. To enable, go to Admin/Logging.
    • Added custom entries and support for "every x minutes" in Admin/Scheduler.
    • Increased Basic/Wireless Filter limit to 100.
    • A few changes to hopefully improve speed: Use jhash for conntrack, increase route cache hash size, increase default conntrack size, option for SYN/FIN/RST prioritization (see QOS/Settings). Thanks to Rodney C.
    • Updated Venezuela, South Australia TZ.
    • Updated Dropbear 0.51.

    - Flashed the new firmware
    - Logged in, erased data in NVRAM, rebooted
    - Restored confg from file, rebooted, WORKS fine

Thanks community and Jon for a GREAT work with Tomato firmware.

The Connect/Disconnect buttons on "Status->Overview" aren't grayed out if they are active?
I want the gray out back, please. It was easier to see which one is activated.

I want DDNS connected/offline info the be included on the same page as you. on "Status->Overview"

If I were to configure the QOS for faster gaming, should I place any of the packets as higher priority (with tick)?

    ACK
    SYN
    FIN
    RST

Online gaming is primarily UDP traffic (because udp is more efficient for this sort of thing). Those are all TCP based flags, so I'd say the answer to your question is most likely no.

Not sure why Jon left these out of the changelog:

*Fixed Model display on Buffalo WHR-G125
*Enabled AOSS button on Buffalo WHR-G125

Maybe he is just wanting more feedback about those before he makes it official.

Thanks, u sure are not the Network Newbie while I should give u my ranking of Serious Server.

hehe I just noticed that.. Don't feel bad, I am Guru and Sysop on other sites (not to mention a college degree in Information Systems) :)

Maybe admin should change rank to "New member". Assuming a new user is a "Newbie" is just silly

    Hi,

i just upgraded to ver. 1.18 without any problems. Flashed without reset the router -> no problems at all

I think thats a bug. You should email Jon about this.

Are you sure it isn't just a browser issue? Firefox does not gray out the active button. But Opera does.

I can't even get IE7 to work with Tomato period.

Thank goodness Opera is my default browser.

    Hi,

    I upgraded to 1.18. No problem :).

People using P2P might want to increase the conntrack limit to 4096 because this is now the default setting (ACK is also checked in QOS settings).

So what does SYN, FIN and RST do and should I activate it in QoS? I have already activated ACK.

Damn, you make me sick! I can't do as well in town for my hotspot than what I get in my home 10 miles out of town. Well... maybe I could but I'd pay thousands. :(

Search google for "TCP flags". Read up.

Basically SYN starts a TCP connection, while FIN finishes it and RST resets it.

EDIT - Hooray ! My rank just went up. I'm not a n00b anymore :p

How about some real throughput tests? 24 mbps, although a nice connection, is surely not the limit for Tomato. Last I heard, it's 3 times that.

By the looks of the changelog, Jon already added some of those tweaks to 1.18.

Ah. So it is a browser issue, and I'm not crazy after all!

I got IE7 working with Tomato also. Turned out my system needed some fixing up with Dial-a-fix and TuneUp Utilities 2008.

    1. Everything it's ok after flashing to 1.18, no problems.

    2. Only the button (see post #3 of this thread) have a problem with actual Firefox 2.0.0.13 but not with IE7.
Edit: -Sorry, i'm too late, cleared by Larix-

    3. What is the new conntrack size now?

    4. Who can explain this better: "option for SYN/FIN/RST prioritization"?
In which case we need it to activate or not?

    5. Thanks der_Kief for the advanced scheduler in 1.18 that we need to send a ping for staying online. Good idea.

    Overall thank you Jon.

I keep losing my wired internet connection with 1.18. I have to renew DHCP to regain it; so far it has happened 5-6 times today, WRT54G v3.1.

I flashed from 1.17, then deleted the NVRAM (thorough) then reloaded my config.

I never recommend loading a backup from a previous version.

Thorough erase nvram is good, but loading a old config isn't. By doing so you pretty much voided the erase..

Try erase again, set up the router manually, and see if your problems don't disappear!

Is the Bufallo WHR-G125 oficially supported in this release? There's a special version for the G125 in the speedmod tomato, just wondering whether the G125 works out-of-the-box with the original 1.1.8

    Thanks.

could someone please reiterate which browser work or do not work with 1.18??

I have IE 7, and FF 3.0 beta 5.. would either of those work well with 1.18?

    Thanks!!

  35. quirK

Both work perfectly with 1.18, except that to view SVG correctly in IE 7, you need the Adobe SVG plugin 3.03. There is a slight error with the Connect / Disconnect buttons in the Overview page (inactive button not grayed out) in Firefox, but that is utterly inconsequential.

    Just use it.

Yesterday I flashed the SpeedMod and there is some improvement.
But I don't see any messages about DHCP renew in the syslog. Is this an issue of the SpeedMod only or the original 1.18 has this problem too?

Edit: Ah, I haven't read carefully the changelog, sorry:

DHCP (udhcpc) logging is now optional. To enable, go to Admin/Logging.

The WHR-G125 has experimental support in Tomato 1.18 ND version. Look on the download page @ polarcloud, there is a link for it under Experimental Stuff:

    EDIT-

BTW, I see nothing wrong so far. I did report some minor issues that were in 1.17, but Jon fixed them for 1.18.

The more people testing, the better! So go for it!

Yes, I have similar lines in syslog in v1.18. I don't know whats happens. Dnsmasq was killed 3 times today (maybe due to lack of memory)
    My logs below:
    Code:
Apr 18 01:26:12 unknown user.warn kernel: MASQUERADE: No route: Rusty's brain broke!
Apr 18 01:26:12 unknown user.warn kernel: NET: 2 messages suppressed.

Apr 18 01:26:12 unknown user.warn kernel: nvram_commit: out of memory

I just change dropbear to telnetd and logs are normal now (4MB free memory), but I don't know how long.

This error happens when the router's ip routing cache is full. The default max value is 8192, unless you have more than 8192 connections it shouldn't happen.

How many connections are you running now?
    Type:
    # cat /proc/slabinfo | grep ip
    You should see something like:
    Code:
    ip_conntrack 2022 2750 384 236 275 1
    ip_mrt_cache 1 40 96 1 1 1
    ip_fib_hash 14 113 32 1 1 1
    ip_dst_cache 7638 9888 160 337 412 1

    Also type:
    # cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/route/max_size
    and
    # cat /proc/meminfo

    Shows us the output.

You might want to try my speedmod version of 1.18 at http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2008/04/linksys-wrt54gl-routers-improving.html which has higher limits. But if your problem is that you are running out of RAM, then it won't help.

I noticed today that 'show all' for the log, even download syslog.txt will not contain the entire log.. it's limited to a certain # of lines.. anyone else want to look and see?

  44. LLigetfa

    LLigetfa LI Guru Member

Unless I misunderstand what you mean, of course it would be limited to a specific max size because RAM is limited.

I thought logically that 'show all lines' meant show me the entire log until it runs out of disk space, not just 683 lines. But maybe there is a hard limit even though I have like 3.6 megs of ram free.

Use a central syslog server if you really want ALL lines. I gather syslogs from over a dozen devices to a central MySQL syslog on Debian running php-syslog-ng.

I don't have this problem with 1.18. Are you using ssh for your router? harmer posted that he had the same problem but it was because he was using ssh. It went away after he switched to telnet. Maybe you can try that. Could be a bug with the new dropbear (ssh daemon).

Thats strange. You could have run out of RAM because of one of the other features that you were using. Anyway, if you were really hitting the dst cache limit, then u can try the SpeedMod version. It has higher limits for ip route cache (16384 vs 8192).

Like I said earlier, you can check this by telnet-ing to the router and typing:
    # cat /proc/slabinfo | grep ip

The Error "Can't write to logfile" is a classic potential failure mode of computer systems, so cannot be allowed to happen! The syslog daemon in Tomato is allowed to use 2 files of fixed size, when the first is full it is copied to messages.0 and new messages go in to messages. This means the number of lines you see with "all" is variable - you see all of the old file plus whatever is in the new.

I've seen a post detailing how to stop the syslogd and restart with different parameters if you want to allow more ramdisk usage - you can increase the number of files and size I recall.

As per other posts use a remote log server if you want to save all - essential if you want to know why the router has crashed and rebooted!

Were the new wireless drivers (ND) integrated into 1.18? I saw 1.18-ND but it looked like it was only for the WHR-G125.

Just did a few searches and couldn't find an answer. Having new uptime problems with a Buffalo wireless NIC.

  53. nvtweak

    nvtweak LI Guru Member

Can't be. It would break compatibility with older routers.

BTW, you can check driver versions:

    dmesg |grep Controller

(provided it was not overwritten in the message buffer, in that case reboot and check dmesg again)
