Other client software options other than QuickVPN

Is there any other client VPN software (other than QuickVPN) that someone can reccomend?

I purchased a Linksys RV042 for small office (5 PC's) that have two occasional remote client needs (one laptop, one desktop). With the help of some of the guides here, I was able to get V1.0.0.40 of QuickVPN working ok.

I have had to resort to static IP's for the office PC's behind the NAT, which isn't a real problem, but lack of NETBIOS means that the remote access isn't as user-friendly as I would like. I created some .bat files to facilitate net use commands, which has helped some.

Just wondered if any other client software options are worth considering (all pc's Windows XP) and are there detailed setup guides for them.

    Thanks!

none that are free. Greenbow is one client software.

do you have WINS or DNS servers at the office? you can also use LMHOSTs File method. edit an LMHOST file with all the IPs and host names and copy it to ALL PCs that are involved on the VPN tunnel.

Thanks for the Greenbow suggestion. I will look at that. The client software doesn't have to be free, just work well.

The 5 PC's are peer-to-peer in a workgroup, no server. Don't you mean the HOSTS file (or lmhosts.sam?) which is in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ folder?

I did add the names/ips in HOSTS but only in the remote client, and that didn't help.

    LMHOSTs file

the LMHOSTS.SAM file needs to be renamed to LMHOSTS (no file extension)

once you have done this, then use the "nbtstat -R" command. This will purge any data from the LMHOST that maybe incorrect and reload new data. then use "nbtstat -c" to check the local netbios name cache on the lacal machine.

Is there some conflict in XP regarding the HOSTS file and the LMHOSTS file? I keep seeing them both on XP pc's.

Which one is the correct one? All searching shows articles with sometimes one name, sometimes the other mentioned.
