packet loss trying to ping the router

    Hi,

I have a WRT54G v3.1 which I have had for around a year, and recently I have been having a problem with packet loss.

When it gets into this state, I get anything between 1% and 10% packet loss trying to ping the router itself or any internet site. However, there is no packet loss pinging other PCs on the LAN. If I reset the router, it works ok for a period of time (anywhere between an hour and a day) then goes AWOL again.

I have upgraded to the latest official linksys firmware 4.20.7 and tried a factory reset to no avail.

the strange thing is that I had exactly this same problem with my previous WRT54G which was a v2.0. This was replaced under warranty with the new v3.1 one and now the this one has started doing the same thing again.

Is this a known problem? - it seems strange that I should get exactly the same problem twice with different versions of the hardware and software.

Should I update to 3rd party firmware instead?

    TIA for any advice

    --- Tim

well, not sure if this was the problem but I have found a workaround. I had mapped a port through to one of the PCs for skype to listen on. Since I closed that up, everything is fine.
