I have a simple perl script that I wish to run on my Linksys WRT54G. Can this be done easily? I tried googling but most perl successes on router seem to be with openwrt, not tomato. I am still running an old version of Tomato so I need to upgrade firmware anyway.

Can anyone help get me in the right direction? Thanks....

I'm not sure if it's possible to install perl under tomato.

How simple is the script? If it's really simple you can probably rewrite it as an ash/awk script.

My perl code uses IO:Socket. Is there an equivalent in shell?

It was probably a mistake to mention nc (netcat). The comment was meant for someone interested in rewriting the perl script in sh, i.e. a programmer, who would simply RTFM (Read The Friendly Manual), if necessary. -- google nc netcat socket -- should satisfy the curious. :)

does netcat work under tomato ash by default or do you have to install it??
