bought wag54g, works very well when connecting via cable.
but when using wlan the connection is horrible, as the latency between wlan device and router doesnt drop below 15ms... regardless where the device is...be it 2meters away from the router or be it one storey higher or be it 20 meters away. latency keeps steady at 15ms.
you got any idea? any setting that could solve the prob?
    thx in advance

I'm working at a distance now - got 50% strength/quality I get 10 to 30 ms on a router ping sometimes losing 2 packets altogether. Pinging a wireless to wired 20-40 ms.

Yours doesn't look too bad so far.

When I get the chance I'll let you now how mine performs up close to the router.

Hi - I've run the ping test with my laptop 2' from the WAG(V2) and I get 20ms to the router and the wired pc. I think your 15 is starting to look quite good for wireless. (at least compared to mine it is - I'm using a WPC54gV1 card card and router at g only, frag/rts at 2304, frame burst ON, beacon 100 beacon at 50 or 40 doesnt help me any so I use the default - it should be as good a connection as the WAG will make)

    Hi
if you are using the ping command try using a utlity such as angryIP
this gives me pings of 2-5ms when the ping command gives 20ms.
It could be the ping command being a bit general in its answer.

Interesting - I get <1ms always, without loss, despite having a V1 WAG running firmware 1.2.7

There are many qualitative statements on this site (mine no less than others) - perhaps we all need a way to resolve this ?

Well MarinC let's start with you!

How is your setup configured and how do you establish your ping result?

    I'll set you off

Mine is Wag V2 1.00.19, 1 - wired pc 100Lan, 1 - WPC54GV1 3.x driver Laptop - both with static IP (tests run wiht Emule and Azureus active).
Wag on end for the the heat problem watchers!

Windows 2k pro SP4 ping gave about 20-40ms
IP ping utility gave sme ping as 2-5 ms

    Well?

    OK

Mine is WAG V1, firmware 1.2.7, I run a ping from the command line DOS interface using a Wireless connected XP (SP2) laptop, direct to 192.168.1.1

    I get minimum = 0ms, maximum =1 ms, average = 0ms

I have also used a Windows utility called Netinfo - this reports the same result.

    Does this help ?

I've retested on a clean restart (including the router) with no internet activity while the tests run.

    Command box ping command
Desktop to router - wired 0ms
    desktop to laptop 28ms
    laptop to router 20ms
    laptop to pc 22ms

    IP scan tool
Desktop to router - wired 0ms
    desktop to laptop 4ms
    laptop to router 5-7ms
    laptop to pc 2-5ms

These results are repeatable, to me it's not a problem as the scan tool gives low figures and the Lan speed is OK is day to day use - the dos ping is a bit strange though!

OK - in the same vein:

    DOS utility
    XP Laptop - Router <1ms
    XP Laptop - Win 98SE Desktop <2ms
    Win98 SE Desktop - Router <1ms
    Win98 SE Desktop - XP Laptop <2ms

    Windows Utility
    XP Laptop - Router <1ms
XP Laptop - Win 98 SE Desktop <2ms
    Win98 SE Desktop - Router <1ms
    Win98 SE Desktop - XP Laptop <2ms

I notice also sustained download rates of 125 k/s

I have to say I have no idea what specific parameters influence ping performance, all I have is just observation
