I am trying to get a 5-story house wireless. I have a WRT54GL on the bottom floor and a wre54g nearby on the second floor and a wre54g on the 4th floor. I changed all devices to channel 8 after seeing that 11, 6, and 1 were already in use in the neighborhood. Everyone can connect to the network but the quality of the connection is poor. It's very slow, trying to load webpages. And even in my apartment, whereas before I had good coverage in all rooms, I now have trouble accessing web pages once out of my bedroom where the GL is located. 1. Often the windows wireless system must scan for networks, then try to connect to my network, then says "limited or no connectivity", then suddenly says "connected" without me doing anything. Why is that? 2. In theory should the WRE54g's be close together as possible or far apart as possible? I'm unclear whether closeness equals some kind of interference and performance issues. Is the problem most likely that I have spread them too far? 3. Is the antenna possibly what's making my apartment coverage so bad? 4. Is 8 a bad channel, due to interference from other devices in the world?
