Please post the effects of what it is doing now (what exactly is it doing wrong and what are the symptoms).

Please describe what behaviors you would like to change.

If you are "double natted" such as the effect of plugging a DirectWay Sattelite Internet box directly into the WAN port of a Linksys router, be aware that some of the Sat modems, Cable modems, DSL modems already contain routing and DHCP servers. In this case, connect the incoming Internet connection directly into the switch (computer) port of your Linksys router. This isn't as secure as port forwarding, but it does result in faster, more reliable, performance.

To have support for a particular application to escape your firewall, while having the rest protected, just find the application port for your particular application that is currently hindered by the firewall. For instance, Yahoophone is 5055.

Changing your router's IP address from to (192.168.whatever.1) can help ease the "nat tax" symptoms. This is vital whenever your Sat modem, DSL modem, Cable modem is in exactly the same IP address range. They must be on two different ranges.
