Hey, I have cable connection set up through my linksys router which has pretty much 8-9 people connected to it in the house. (college) Problem is, when someone starts downloading it slows everyone else down so bad that the internet is barely usable.. But the landlord made me admin of the network so I am the only one that can access the settings. Is there any way to cap or limit the max bandwidth of the other users? Please help, i heard that certain versions of this router aren't great with updated firmwares, but is anything possible? If not a firmware, maybe a program? I'm running osx and windows 7 on another pc.

I am the only one that can access the admin settings, and I am able to view everyones ip as well as their mac address, but i cannot monitor which users are using up the bandwidth. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't know much about this, But Tomato Firmware has some QoS option, members in the Tomato section may be able to help you out.

Also firmware called DD-WRT has the possibility to setup Quality of Service.
Check this link to find out more about QoS - how to setup QoS, explaination of different settings, etc.. I'm sure it will do the job for you

In addition to the above link, here is another link to QOS, although it is based on Tomato Firmware, which unfortunately you can't put on your v8, but it is a good read and helpful for understanding how QOS works.

You can however put a micro version of DD-WRT on that router. Here is a link to help you get started with that, if your so inclined.

    Good luck.
