    Hi,

I have a motorola sb4200 cable modem connected to a linksys wtr54g v4 router with tomato 1.17 firmware. My internal LAN is 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0.

I'm trying to setup port forwarding for high ports (5xxxx), but when I use port checking sites (shields up, emule), they report the ports as closed. I forward 'both' and only fill the 'ext ports' and 'int address' fields. Cold rebooting the modem and router didn't help.

Maybe the modem needs some configuration? (I read that it acts as bridge only)

    Thank you for your help,

Can you please explain how to do that?

So I used 192.168.100.1 to see the modem's web interface. I turned off the option to act as dhcp server. Still, ports are closed

Too quick to reply... Turns out I needed to restart the application that was listening to the port (I reconfigured it to the new port without restarting).

    Thanks for the help

This is the key that your port forwarding was working. If the ports were not forwarded, they would be reported as "stealth". As it was, as you figured out, the machine that you were forwarding to was not correctly set up and the ports were indeed closed.
