Possible to block LimeWire?

    I seem to be having some luck blocking other bittorrent clients, but I just had a user essentially use all our bandwidth, despite having bandwidth limitations set, along with the following added to restrictions:

    "ALL IPP2P filters"

    I am in Iraq, and our satellite bandwidth is very precious, not to mention very expensive. We are currently using a 2mb down and 512 up at 1:10 ratio, with 18 users on the network. I have each user capped at 128k

    So far things have been working well, but I cant seem to prevent some P2P and/or bittorrent clients. Not TOO big of a deal, as a firm talking to generally solves the issue, but I'd like to prevent it all together, if possible.

    Install RAF mod > set up ip/mac limiter > no single user chokes the line, no bandwidth is wasted.

    Torrents can use any port and bypass filters if they're encrypted. Essentially you can't actually stop them, but you can at least ensure everyone gets their fair share of bandwidth and at quieter times the router will increase individuals speeds to ensure the full capacity of the connection is being used.

    I do use the said firmware with the ip/mac bandwidth filter. Unfortunately, when you have a satellite connection that has an average bandwidth of 600k, the repeated and multiple requests from torrent seeds, seem to still slow things down considerably. I havent seen much success when using TCP connection limiting either. But, I havent played around with that option much, to be honest.

    Throttle the user, not the protocol.
