I am running Tomato 1.28 on my Linksys WRT54G (v.2).

I've seen that there are a bunch of people with modded versions of Tomato, and it doesn't look like the original Tomato author is still working on it (let me know if that's incorrect).

At present I'm loving how well my wireless network works (loads better than with the stock firmware), with the small exception of some iPhone issues that I described in another post. So I don't really want to mess with it or install one of the modded versions (if it ain't broke....)

However, I've been looking into a VPN provider (e.g. strongvpn) and I need PPTP to use it properly. My understanding is that doesn't work with the basic 1.28.

Is there a modded version that would add PPTP to a WRT54G, and if so, which one should I use? I don't require anything fancy and am not looking for any features other than the PPTP. Stability is more important than anything else. Thanks!

I have followed your advice and updated to "Tomato Firmware v1.28.7630 -Toastman-IPT-ND-BETA ND VPN".

Everything seems to be working well, with the minor exception that certain sites appear to be having difficulties displaying images. I also switched from WEP to WPA2 so that could be the issue there.

I notice that there is a fair bit about overclocking the processor and increasing the transmit power. I see a guide here (http://tomatousb.org/tut:increasing-wrt54g-transmit-power) but it seems to be geared for the WRT54GL. I don't know enough about these things to know if that would apply equally to a WRT54G v.2.

Do you have any recommended settings (overclock, transmit power, anything else noteworthy) for my particular router?

Thanks again for the advice on updating to a Toastman build.
