PPTP Server vs. USB Bandwidth bug?

I don't know if it's a bug or a known behaviour of something that I don't understand, but I've noticed the following:
When I run a PPTP VPN server with Tomato and on the server I set Broadcast Relay Mode for 'Both' the bandwidth of how fast I can copy data over to the attached USB HDD over LAN is halved.

Usually I'm getting around 10 - 11 000 kbps when I copy files over to the USB HDD (ext3), however if I enable Broadcast Relay Mode ("Both") I only get 5 - 6000 kbps for the very same LAN file copy.
Maybe I miss something as it scales linearly, meaning that if I enable Broadcast Relay Mode in only one direction (e.g.: "LAN to VPN Clients") I get 7-8000 kbps when copying files over the HDD through LAN.

I don't get it, how/why does a VPN connection affect the USB port's speed?...

I've also experienced this issue with tomato-K26USB-1.28.AT-RT-N5x-MIPSR2-1.12.12-AIO and although this is also based on Shibby's builds I'd think it's a more common issue?

    Anyone else having this issue?
