I get these messages in my log files and causes my PPTP connection using windows VPN to fail and all traffic is lost. Does anyone know why and how to fix? Using 1.04 already.

Just using windows VPN to connect to a vpn server. I can connect and successfully transfer for 5 mins or so. Tonnes of these messages appear and the link no longer works. I'm still connected to the VPN but no traffic goes through.

Post a sample of the errors. What is a cpn server ? How do I access Windows VPN ? Can I emulate your setup to help you de-bug ?

    Easy,

Go to www.secureix.com, sign up for an account (free and no hassle). Go to the settings page and you'll find the settings for their VPN servers. I used windows XP so you can make a new VPN connection with hostname: vpn.secureix.com , username@secureix.com, password

Browse the web through the vpn, do some heavy traffic. You will notice your traffic stops and can't access anything. VPN still connected, lots of the following errors in Tomato's log.

    Code:

Great response. I asked mainly because there are folks here who already know what you are talking about, and were probably waiting for some more detail. I was honest with my queries, and will indeed see if I can catch up enough to be able to help. A guinea pig for you to bouce verifications off of if nothing else. I would really like to help, but it will take me a bit of time to figure out how to, and thanks to your links, I may actually be able to.

okay i did a followup but no clues as to the cause yet.

    downlink xfer : approx 3000 kbit/s
    uplink xfer : approx 800 kbit/s

i'm getting just about as much unknown gre errors as Goldserve here

have abt 500kb free mem and cpu load at 0.03/0.07/0.03, main cpu hog is ksoftirqd_CPU0 which is to be expected.

anyway just to answer some qns that may pop up, i believe gre is the encapsulation layer for vpn traffic

At school, the routers handled it fine and did not drop my connection.

  11. azeari

    azeari LI Guru Member

oh i forgot to add my connection was NOT dropped despite the errors

  12. GoldServe

The VPN connection isn't dropped but after 5 minutes, no traffic will flow through...

Is that what you are seeing?

  13. azeari

    azeari LI Guru Member

actually, the traffic still flows. On closer look, i didn't get any errors, only warnings of unknown gre versions from the kernal.

I just reset my tomato completly and not i'm getting a different behaviour. The VPN gets disconnected and I have to reconnect now.

okay did some further testing. seems like the SecureIX server's at fault. i did manual selection of servers in this test, and out of all of them, only server 1 seemed to behave properly while the rest dropped the connection after awhile. try posting at the secureix forums instead?

which server preformed properly? I have used these servers from else where and no problems. Combination of bad server and handling in the firmware?

omg tt was a fast reply, i was still reviewing the logs. Server 1 seems to be behaving for me, while the others threw me a string of unknown gre warnings and 0 connectivity.

u might wanna try using another firmware to confirm that though :p thibor15c worked great for me previously. Reflashing's outta e qn for me at the moment cuz i'm running on wireless

Using cable to connect to the internet. DHCP.

I'm running the latest version of Tomato on my WRT54GS router, and I can connect to SecureIX with no problems (I get no error messages). I'm just using the windows VPN connection tools to do it.

If you check their site, you will see that they were overloaded and had to set up new servers, so thats maybe why you were having errors.

    No cause/solution to this problem

Some combination of vpn server/router/windows xp sp2

    Similar problem here.
Connecting to vpn-nf.secureix.com, getting "unknown user.warn kernel: ip_conntrack_pptp: error during exp_gre" errors and the connection is dropped.

The SecureIX forums blame the router:

I have the same problem: traffic through vpn stops after some minutes when using P2P filesharing. Tested with Secureix and Relakks.com. But this only happens if QoS is enabled!

I also tested with DD-WRT: same problem with QoS enabled, no problem with QoS disbaled.
