    I have set up my network using the windows network setup wizard, and can acesx files on my upstairs pc from the one downstairs, but when i tryed to make the printer attached to the downstairs pc shared it just says "printer settings could not be save Operation could not be completed". I cannot make the downstairs pc show any of its files to the upstairs pc and the upstairs pc is the only workgroup computer shown.

    I am using a WAG54G v1.2 with the latest beta firmware, the downstairs pc is windows xp pro and the upstairs is windows xp media center addition.

    It may be a permission or file sharing not set properly on the downstairs machine. Get the ip from the downstairs machine and see if you can ping it from the upstairs machine, if not windows firewall is blocking the upstairs machine. If you can then go to the run line and input \\[downstairs machine ip here] without the brackets. If you get a window and no files or printer shared or no window, then again windows firewall is blocking access. Give it a try and we can go from there.

    When pinging the downstairs pc i get:

    reply from 192.168.1.101: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=120
    " "
    " "
    " "

    Ping statistic for 192.168.1.101 :
    Packets sent = 4, recieved = 4, lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    minimum = 2ms, Maximum = 2ms, average = 2 ms

    when putting \\192.168.1.101 into the run menu it comes up with the error message, " \\192.168.1.101 The network path was not found"

    Do you run any other firewall then Windows? If so shut it down, also shut off Windows firewall and test again. There is also a file sharing attribute or something that needs to be set, i have to run at the moment but i will look for it when i get home. Try again with the firewall shut off and let me know.

    Started the server service from the run menu, and managed to set printer as shared as well as some files on the downstairs pc. And now everything is working fine.
