Ok, I live with a bunch of people all using the same router and connect wirelessly, its fine when a lot of people arent on but when the network gets congested my speed really slows down. The problem is it's sometimes so much that I cant check my email etc.

Now im wondering if theres something I can do via the router to prioritize my computer so that it can get the bandwidth it needs, when it needs it not worrrying about the others on the network (would it be pisssuible for me to pull all the bandwidth i need and have them slow up a bit)

ive tried this in device priority using the mac address of my wireless reciever but it hasnt seemed to help so far

thanks in advance for any help

    What is your router version?
I think that the latest Linksys firmware includes QoS (Quality of Service), and will allow you to prioritize the Ethernet ports... Not sure if it will prioritize against Wifi connections.

Also, I might be wrong -does the wifi bandwidth throughput decline as you add multiple wireless users. You could consider adding a second access point, and giving it priority on the ethernet port.

WRT54G Qos = Under Application & Gaming 'tab'.

I think you can also configure QoS by port usage. You could set email port usage as high priority, and that should prioritize the email packets higher than port 80 & other traffic (online gaming, etc).
