Problem setting up WPS54G with HP LaserJet 1012 printer

Discussion in 'Other Linksys Equipment' started by cyber-servant, Nov 9, 2005.

  1. I just purchased WPS54G and want to connect it to my printer. I am running XP Pro SP2 on my laptop. When I make a direct connection to my hp LaserJet 1012 printer by USB it prints fine. When I connect using the wireless print server, it prints several pages of one-line garbage per page. If I try to go back to the direct connection, the printer driver has become corrupted and has to be reinstalled. Can anyone help? I am using WRT54GS router with WPA-PSK on both router and print server.

Delete everything, printers, print server program etc.

Install Hp 1012 while plugged into computer. Install drivers manually. Install "HP Host Based Drivers" available on the HP download site.

Run Linksys install wizard. Follow it like a monkey.

When wizard is done, open Printers, right click the HP 1012, choose "properties," in the "advanced" tab choose "print processor" and select "IMFPrint" and "Raw"

OK out of all these menus.

You HP Laserjet 1012 will now print.

Don't ask me how I figured this out because I don't know.

    Good luck.

In the interest of those with future problems with this set up, I also had to check "Print directly to Printer" in the Advanced printer settings as well.
