Problem with USB on the WRTSL54GS

I had to replace my router, and after some research decided on the WRTSL54GS. I have an external USB 2 hard drive on which I keep my music files (mp3), so the USB port on the WRTSL54GS really appealed to me. I had no problem setting up the network, or getting the drive to show in the network.

The problem I am having is playing music off of the drive. It takes a long time to populate the folder list on the drive, and when I am playing an mp3, it has to buffer a lot, which causes Media Player to stutter, and sometimes lock up for a period of time, even when there is no other activity on the network. I have the same problem on both computers that are on the network, and they are both connected by cat 5, not wireless.

The hard drive is FAT 32, 120g, with 106g used and 5 gig free. When I am using it connected to directly into the computer, I have no problems.

Both machines are running XP. The router has the latest firmware, Firmware Version : v2.00.5. I have searched for a similar problem, but haven't had any luck, so when I found this forum, I figured all of you Linksys aficionados would be able to help me ;-)

I don't see why there would be a problem. Even playing music on another machine from a shared folder when it is attached to a PC instead of the router doesn't have this problem.

    Thanks in advance!
