problem with wireless connection

Discussion in 'Networking Issues' started by Richard Kimber, May 29, 2008.

  1. I don't know if I'm in the right section here, but here goes:-

I have a WRT150N which will connect with an XP machine using a wireless g adapter, though the signal is not great.

To improve this, I acquired an Edimax EW-7728IN card. However, in 'station mode' I cannot get a signal at all.

If I change to 'AP mode' XP reports an excellent signal but no connectivity and says the router doesn't allocate an IP address, though it also reports that the IP address is 169.254.205.19

XP is set for automatic DHCP.

I tried upgrading the Linksys firmware to 1.51.3 but that had no effect, except to reduce the strength of the wireless g signal a little.

I also tried entering reserved client IP addresses manually.

I should say that the wired connection to my PC works fine, as does the connection to my wireless g laptop. The Edimax card has the latest driver.

I'm not an expert, so I should be very grateful for help.
