Problems installing WRE54G Range Expander

I was getting low signal to my downstairs computer (Access Point is upstairs) so I bought a WRE54G Range Expander. I went through the installation (several times) but although the signal is now boosted to "Excellent" I cannot get it to talk through the WEP security. I have given it the right WEP Key, a unique IP address, the correct Gateway and Submask values and enabled it through the Firewall but it cannot get access to the Internet. Does anyone have any bright ideas. The http://www.linksys.com site seems to be broken. Cheers, NF

Are the LEDs on the WRE54G blinking blue, which indicates it is connected to the Access Point? If it is blinking red and blue it is not connected to the access point. Place it near the access point and press the auto configuration button. If you have MAC address filtering you must enter the MAC address of the WRE54G as a computer that can wireless connect to your access point.

Thanks for your suggestions. It turns out that when I was installing the Expander, the Setup Wizard suggests an IP address for the network which I was accepting. If I refused it, it would go out and search for the network and I could just select the network and everything was ok. I must admit that I hadn't read the small print that said the signal would be cut in half through the repeater so really I am not gaining much except additional range.(
    Thanks, NF

That's the major drawback of bridged mode. Output is half of what comes in. :sadbye:

Repeater mode cuts bandwidth in half. I do not think it cuts it in bridge mode.
