Problems with Setup

I recently bought a WRT54GS because I now have a macbook, and I wanted to share a connection with that with my PC.

I've followed every step of CD setup until it reaches to a point on step 8 where it checks the router's status and an error pops up saying "unable to connect to the router! Check that the Router is connected to the computer, and that your Ethernet adapter is working" and I've tried everything from double checking the wires, resetting the router, restarting my computer, unhooking everything and rehooking everything back up.

But once I disconnect my original ethernet cable from the router and back to my PC, my internet works. If I connect it to the router, I can't get a connection.

Sorry if that sounds confusing, but would someone please help me?

hook the router into your modem and power cycle both of these.

then plug into the router and sign into the web admin for the router
( username: (leave blank) password: admin

goto the status page and make sure the IP address/Gateway/DNS numbers arent, if they are your not hooked up correctly somewhere along the line.

This web admin is a much better way of configuring the router anyway, and you can do this from the mac. you can setup wireless etc.
