Problems with WAG54G - disconnects from internet

About 1-3 times / day the internet connection hangs. When I then try to login to the internet again at my ISP:s loginpage (login1.telia.com) it says "The end system's IP is invalid." Then I have to restart the gateway so I can login.
This is VERY annoying. I've tried a several firmware-versions.

I'm 100% sure that I have tested these and they don't fix the problem:
    WAG54G_AnnexA_ETSI_v1.03.0_beta4_00_code.bin (works worst)

Should I go back to the seller with this shit? Have I wrong settings (I don't think so)?

    Thanks in advance!

Before you pitch it, see if you've done these three things:

    1) requested your IP be changed to static
    2) utilize either a dynamic dns or static ip (or both)
    3) make sure you set it to "connect ever 30 seconds" on the setup page

The WAG54G does not interprete DHCP well "at all" so when your ISP refreshes their IP's in the middle of the night, the WAG bombs (no connection for you in the morning). I've done those three things above using the firmware my WAG came with out of the box (version 1.01.6) and I haven't seen the other problems people speak of since figuring this out. I run all of the 5 vpn tunnels to include having access to my ftp server from anywhere (not that I'm bragging by the way) :) :)

Try those first before you shit can it...

    Thanks for the answer! :D

Are we talking about the same gateway, Linksys WAG54G? (I think I have the v1.2)
Because I don't see any setting "Connect every 30 seconds" or something like that?
For the moment I use the firmware version 1.02.9.
I've tested before to use static IP and that didn't help, but I changed to static again now.
I have always internet on the morning, I only get disconnected when I use internet.

Isn't the 1) and 2) almost the same thing?

BTW, can it be overheating problem? My WAG gets pretty hot.

    v1.2 heat...

I agree, my previous 1.2 also suffered from heat. The way I found around that was to limit the functionality of the box...

turn off any un-ness features... drop to MAC filtering instead of WEP, drop the FW, so that it runs in stealth mode.

The other change I made was to drop the connection speed of the wireless to 11mbps, from 54.

I managed to get it running for about 5/7 days before I have to reboot it.

The other option is to "super cool" it by sticking it in the fridge :)

I now have a v2, which is more stable.

    Hope that helps?

Sorry for not getting back any sooner...

Yes, I'm talking about the WAG54G but if you don't see the "keep alive" option on the main startup page, you definitely have a different version that no longer supports this initial configuration option.

You are using the PPPoA option on your WAG, correct?

    Re: v1.2 heat...

Thanks for that info. Yes, it is an overheating problem! :(
I have a big table fan blowing on it now, which makes a lot of noise. But now it works - it doesn't hang anymore. I testet to turn the fan off and an hour later I got dropped from internet.
But, damn, I don't want to have it like this... I can't have the fan on 24/7.
    And I can't disable more functions/settings - I don't have so many enabled.
I've called the shop where I bought this shit but they just refer to other guys that refers to some other... :/

DocLarge: No, I use RFC 1483 Bridged.

I can appreciate that your WAG is not performing very well as its hot. Is it possible to get the equipment sent back and get a later model? (Version 2)

Alternatively, perhaps a reposition of the box, alternatively switch it off when not being used?

If you cant turn off the services, an idea could be to drop the connection speed to 11mbps?

    Re: Swap/RMA

I'm going to send it back and get another gateway. Not Linksys.
The gateway stands free on the cold floor and nothing is near or in the way for air. I have wireless disabled but it still hangs.
    But thanks for helping...
