i don't know if this has been suggested already or not but i think it'd be really cool if DD-WRT (or a version of it - as there's the basic, VoIP versions) had WRTbwlog included in it or at least some of the functionality of it as it is a very good and small (95KB) bandwidth monitoring add-on for Alchemy-based firmware. i ask this as it is annoying that WRTbwlog has to be re-downloaded, installed etc every time the router goes down and it would also be a lot nicer to have it integrated in the same admin area as everything else rather than hosted on a different port number for anyone to see.

btw awesome work on DD-WRT BrainSlayer - v23 alpha is looking really good.

putting wrtbwlog would be great in dd-wrt that would make it the ultimate firmware.

and Brainslyer could you put the gpio tool in dd-wrt so we can control the "sercret leds" on wrt54gv3 and wrt54gsv2 routers.

thanks for adding nocatsplash!!!!! i have been asking you for that for a while. :cheer:

No need to waste flash space on this IMHO, as every IRC client comes with its own identd daemon. Just use port triggering instead of port forwarding, and all your computers will be able to work with identd - everytime a new client connects to an IRC server, port 113 gets automaticaly forwarded to that computer. Tested here on my LAN with two computers and DD-WRT22.

Sorry, maybe a misunderstanding. He ist using SNOM hardphone 190 firmware 3.60s and was using DD-WRT v.23 alpha dated something at the beginning of august. -> worked

Two days behind he updated to v.23 alpha 22-08-2005 -> it didn´t work any longer cause error 479.

    Hello,

we are using V23 in combination with fwbuilder. From my experience, if I install a long firewall policy, there are possibly getting some areas of stored informations overwritten. So if I apply such an rule, the language of the router shows up as Bulgarian, while it stays on english. But thats only a cosmetic problem. The bigger problem is, that it's impossible to reset the router because it hangs, while coming up again (WLAN is switched off, so the WLAN LED goes on, but not off again, while the power led is flashing for the second time.)

Anyone having the same problem or a solution? Maybe someone can explain what's happening, so I can try to explain the problem also to the author of fwbuilder.

    Best regards

Thanks RMerlin for the advice. I knew that irc clients have an ident server but I didn't knew what was port triggering. I'll try it as soon as my AP is debricked. ;)

Brainslyer would it be possible if you could put the gpio tool in dd-wrt, so owners of the wrt54gSv2 wrt54gsv3 wrt54gSv4, wrt54gv3 wrt54gv3.1 and wrt54gv4 could use the led behind the cisco logo....this would be great.

I live ca. 50km near Cologne and i worked there. When ever you are in this area, send me a message, i spend a coffee....

Tell me about your job Problem (I worked on a German DSL-Provider). How ever sometimes there is a way to help.

i joined a company to build up my own wireless solutions section now. (blueline ag) primarly i develop dd-wrt in this company. free for private use and naturally also special editions for comercial companies. its still in the beginning and i need many partnerships with other companies and isp's to get enough out of it

Thanks for your info an congratulations to your solution!!!

It isn´t easy to push your Firmware on our product´s, but sometimes in the future there are sometimes more ways and solution tah one...

I´ve your "way" on my mind. I think there would any times to go but i think there is a solution in our Company to provide you. Give me a little time to call our produktmanger to build a produkt. I can nothing promise but i have a idea to provide Voip...it´s a trial :dog: let me do...

But the coffee is still yours when you are near by cologne :thumb:

    I can´t get QOS running :( (15/22/29.08.05)

everything works fine, ping is ok (about 25ms), http requests work well, but as soon as 1 or 2 users start emule/torrent surfing becomes terrible/impossible, pings are lost or slow down to 500ms+ emule upload traffic fluctuates between max. and 0.

any hints to resolve this problem?

qos works only from wan->lan/wlan yet
a ap configuration is almost done from wan->lan

about performance. i dont know how many connection do you open with emule which could be the reason. generally emule is not good for wireless connections if you plan todo a network with more than 1 computer.

    Greetings

Has anyone (Jagboy) tried WPA over a client bridge with the 8/29 build??

Before I go an update my WDS network to WPA (or WPA2) I would like to know if my client bridge will connect

    Thanks

so only the download (wan to (w)lan) will be restricted?
ok, this may be the matter.
is there another version of dd-wrt solving this problem?

for a long time I used FLI4L with QOS, but this problem never occurs.

Multimedia applications in a Wi-Fi network require Quality of Service (QoS) functionality.
QoS enables Wi-Fi access points to prioritize traffic and optimizes the way shared
network resources are allocated among different applications. Without QoS, all
applications running on different devices have equal opportunity to transmit data frames.
That works well for data traffic from applications such as web browsers, file transfers, or
email, but it is inadequate for multimedia applications. Voice over Internet Protocol
(VoIP), video streaming, and interactive gaming are highly sensitive to latency increases
and throughput reductions, and require QoS.
To meet this need, the Wi-Fi Alliance started interoperability certification for WMM (Wi-Fi
Multimedia) as a profile of the upcoming IEEE 802.11e QoS extensions for 802.11
networks. WMM prioritizes traffic demands from different applications and extends
Wi-Fi’s high quality end-user experience from data connectivity to voice, music, and
video applications under a wide variety of environment and traffic conditions. WMM
defines four access categories (voice, video, best effort, and background) that are used
to prioritize traffic so that these applications have access to the necessary network
resources. Additionally, WMM-enabled Wi-Fi networks concurrently support legacy
devices that lack WMM functionality. The WMM best effort access category and legacy
devices transmit with the same priority.

Regarding QoS, I am a little confused by BrainSlayer's explanation..

I am using v22 right now, with QoS active on incoming and outgoing internet access.. Like this

Internet <-> QoS <-> Internal Network

Is this what is not supported currently?

    Thanks.

    Upgrading v4 hardware

Is the current v23 alpha version supposed to be working with v4 via the upgrade screen on the web interface? Is so, it doesn't work for me.

When I attempt to upgrade to the WRT54G version via the web interface, it says the upgrade is sucessful, but the router will not respond after the upgrade. This same thing happened to me with an earlier alpha version, and I had to do the "touch the pin" procedure to make the router available for a tftp upload of the Linksys firmware to get it to work again. Am I going to have to do it again?

^^ I guess you screwed up again! Maybe try TFTPing the v23?

As Brainslayer stated in his info file, he ain't got no v4 WRT54 to test it with.

Feedback on V23 alpha - so far so good

I upgraded from V22 to the latest (as of this week) V23 alpha. So far it seems much better here than V22 (at least for my limited needs):

    - With V22, whenever I would be downloading a torrent my whole net access became VERY slow, constant "cannot connect to" errors while browsing, half-loaded pages, etc... With V23 it seems fine so far (currently testing with a Fedora x86 DVD ISO torrent).

    - PPPoE working fine

    - WPA working fine

    This is with a WRT54G 2.1.

    hi,

    it's seem to be a bug ?

I use the 29.08 firmware on 2 GS 1.1, one in client, one in AP.
I use Speedbooster & WPA-PSK on the 2 GS
The linux connected to client can access to the web, my computer connected to the AP can also access to the web but my computer nerver can access to the linux (I make a routing entry)

Work fine with another firmware in AP.

Found ! It was the firewall on the client. So my 2 GS work fine now.
I make a mistake on my test procedure  , sorry

    about the compatibility.

    router revisions:
dd-wrt is compatible to any router revision except the g v4 and the gs v3. i also found a post about a gs v4. it wont work on it yet. but hopefully in the next days.

firmware revision compatiblity using web upgrade
dd-wrt can be flashed out from any linksys firmware with web. but note that i got also strange errors on 3.1 units with the voip version. i guess its again a little bit too big. i'll work on it. possibly i must also remove some features. who knows

I tried V23 but in chillispot configuration page I cannot select DHCP for LAN and WLAN. After confirming changes it jumps right back to WAN. Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug? Is it possible to make those changes through telnet or additional options?

BrainSlayer thank you for awesome firmware. I'm using V22 at the moment and looking forward to using V23.

    edit: router is WRT54GS V1.1

    Same in QoS IP-Settings:
192.168.123.123/32 is after storing shorten to 192.168.123.123/3
but 192.168.123.12/32 or 192.168.12.123/32 is stored fine

seems the variable fields are to short

Its great to hear that there will be support for the GSv3. Now there is a GS v4 out but it has the same specs as a regular G Router. So I guess the Gv4 firmware should work with the GSv4. Anyways keep up the good work and I Hope you feel better Brainslayer.

    Diag Light

    Thank you in advance.

I have upgraded from v22 pre5 to v 23 alapha. The issues I have is the diag light stays on but HTTP, telnet, and everything works great except the diag light and sometimes PPoE does not want to connect. No problems with any there code.

I have upgraded, downgraded, TFTP, used the .exe flash for OEM v 2.2 code upgreded to latest OEM then to v22 then to v23 downgraded, shorted the pins, erased the flash, hard reset, soft reset, hold the reset button 30 seconds, offered my first born to the router and did a rain dance. How do I make the diag light go off and get consistancy in the PPoE.

V1 of the wrtg is what I am having problems with and by the way I have v2.2, v 2.0 and 3.0 all working just fine.

Some nice feedback now that I'm using my AP regularly (GS V1.0-DDWRT v2.3-29/08):

    - Tried to change some settings on the Setup page like the DNS server or the gateway and the Save Settings button does not work. More specifically it does not work after the fresh-firmware initial setup. I have to reflash the firmware to change some settings! Telneting and nvraming it does not help either!
    - Change the speed the same way as before (after the initial setup) does not remain after power cycles. telnet + nvram + wl commands do not work permanently either.

Well, that's it for now. Hope you can solve them :)
