Then there is something flakey - I am running on V3 hardware and it does not work.

    Does your logging work???

    Edit:

Well, I finally have V23 running failry well.

I am running on 3 boxes - 2 WDS and 1 client bridge

All runs OK -with one big problem. As soom as I do a config backup, httpd crashes and logging stops. The httpd problem is fixed by a re-boot but the logging does not come back. Only a clean install and reset of defaults gets logging back

I did a reset to factory defaults, held the reset button for 30sec, selected reset to factory defaults on firmware upgrade and also did the telnet mtd erase nvram command... but still I can not get UPnP devices and programs to see the router... But the odd thing is that I do see the router listed in network places as if UPnP was working but like I said no UPnP aware devices or programs seem to be able to see the router... this has been reported a few times by others and not just myself...

I consider the ability to backup (and restore) my router configs critical. I hope brainslayer gets this one figured out quickly.

My home network is setup so if one of my routers fails, I can restore its functions on a backup simply with a config load from the failed device. (example: Gateway Router fails, take a client bridge router, reload gateway config and get the net back up.)

    Some bugs/problems on 200905.dd-wrt.v23.std_beta1

First of all I discovered a fonction on the 'Basic Setup' page, I've never used before.
    That' s the DHCP forwarder.

when I try to add the 'DHCP Server' iP , the save button don't work,
I must change the setting via ssh , with "nvram set dhcpfwd_ip=192.168.1.1" then "nvram commit"

    (edit :
in fact , enabling the DHCP forwarder, make impossible to change any parameters from the 'Basic Setup' page.
    save button don't work anymore.
if there is any change to do there , you must remove the DHCP forwarder, by selecting DHCP Server, and you'll be able to use again the save button.)

    Also ,
I have the same problem as dellsweig , when doing a config backup, I can't connect no more to the http GUI, after the backup.

I still can login to the router with ssh, the 'top' command show :

    114 root S 560 1 0.0 4.0 httpd

    so httpd isn't killed

I was connected to the web gui with http://192.......
so I tried to connect to the web gui with https://...
and this worked again , connection to the admin GUI.

I tried another config backup , and now I cannot connect anymore to the web GUI , with http or https.
I deduce , the nvram config backuping is killing the httpd

syslogd is still alive and works/logs after the backup, for me.

    regards
    z.

    dellsweig,

You can restart the web gui.
    Log with telnet/ssh to the router;

    for http type :
    httpd -p 80 -d /www/

    for https type :
    httpd -S -d /www/

just in case you dunno this.

Version 2005-09-19 and -20: "Current Time" is not available any more if router is not connected directly to PPPoE, i.e. working as IP-Forwarder and AP/WDS mode. Somehow it workes before- the mentines NTP sever is 192.53.103.103 (ptbtime1.ptb.de)

    hi,

    I use 2 WRT54GS 1.1 V23 22-09, 1 in AP, 1 in client

    2 things :

-WPA PSK work fine, WPA2 PSK don't work betwen client & AP
(it work betwen AP & computer)

-I can't access to the client system from my computer (I can access to the dreambox connected behind the client). Firewall is disabled and I try remote management (8080 and 80): nothing seem to work. I must plug a ethernet cable on the client.

Smalls problems for a very beautiful system...

Think u'll find that u need SSID Broadcast ENABLED on the AP and on the CLient Bridge router to get WPA working. odd i know but works on HyperWRT for me like that (the updated one by Thibor). have asked Brainslayer to add SSID back to the wireless setup page when in client bridge mode :) he is doing it as we speak i HOPE :)

Ok newB here so laugh if I make an a$$ of myself by missing something obvious... :)

I just got 2 WRT54G in order to use one as AP and the other as the bridge to connect 2 wired networks... They are V4 hardware and I am using the DD-WRT V23 standard from 9/22.

I cannot for the life of me make them link to each other as AP and Bridge for more than 2-3 seconds. I just want to replace my WET11 which is only WIFI B while this set up would offer me G speeds. The other WRT54G replaces another WIFI B router.

The bridge one will link up for a few seconds, then reboot, and when it comes back it is not connected to the AP.

Something to notice is that when I join them(Using STATUS > WIRELESS > SURVEY > JOIN ) the WAN light blinks for a few seconds and stops, as I think it should, quickly I can see they are linked to each other in the STATUS > WIRELESS page and even connect and ping other computers in the AP side no problem... for all 2 seconds.

After that, the power light starts blinking on the BRIDGE one and it reboots, but after it finishes the Orange CISCO light turns on(this light on the AP is ALWAYS OFF) which it was off during those few seconds both of them were connected.

I set the AP one as:

    IP- 192.168.1.2
    Sub-255.255.255.0
    Gateway -192.168.1.1

    WIFI AP

    SSID - XXXXXX
    Channel - 6
    Type - Mixed

    Then the BRIDGE one:

    IP -192.168.1.3
    Sub - 255.255.255.0
    Gate - 192.168.1.1

    WIFI Bridge

    SSID XXXXXX
    Channel - 6
    Type - Mixed

(192.168.1.1 is my internet router which has VOIP but I dont want to have that do anything important but just offer the internet in my network, I have it separate so I can just remove it and use any other without reconfiguring the 2 WRT54G)

Congrats to the developer(s) of this firmware, incredible work you guys!

Are you using WPA by chance? Also you have set the GW on the bridge.. u dun set a GW on the bridge becos it works on MAC addy's not ips.. u only need to set GW's in routed client mode, OH and of course on your PC's in EITHER mode

Ooops forgot to mention, no MAC filter and no encryption, just plain open connection for now. I will work on security after I actually get it working, not many people interested in computer hacking the ghetto I live in... :p

ok well if no encryption and mac filtering etc. looks like u maybe running into a simular problem i am/was having where i needed to Enable SSID broadcasting on both the AP and the Client Bridged router..
i can't get it working and i can't test it in dd-wrt becos the option to enable SSID broadcasting is not available when u switch to client bridge mode...

I am using HyperWRT (latest by thibor, have a look in that forum)on the client in WET mode with it enabled on the client bridged router and works like a charm.. mite be worth a try

Is anyone here using WPA2 in client bridge mode or WDS? I can only get WPA (and WEP) to work in WDS, in client bridge only WEP works.

Any idea on how to fix this ppl? All this on 2 WRT54G 2.2's - one AP other client bridge, or both in WDS mode. This is the only issue I have with DD-WRT v23 alpha -- otherwise a great FW, as stated soooo many times already

Is this something you do BESIDES setting it up as a client bridge or a completly different thing?

  25. zyclone

still the problem with forwarding ports setup.
you can't have more than 24 forwarding ports,
the 25th input port is truncated (its IP), and make the whole setup (fwd), no more working.
    (edit : I forgot to mention i'm using fw : 230905.dd-wrt.v23)

    @JohnSK :
I'm not sure you can use wpa2 key in WDS mode.

  27. BrainSlayer

this is one of my next tasks. the reason is that the value of a nvram var is limited on its size and port forwardings are currently saved in just one nvram value

Possible Bug/Restriction: If you use QOS and you have "Maximum Ports" set to 1024 internet might be very slow under heavy load (e.g. P2P).

Solution: Setting "Maximum Ports" to 2048 solved this problem.

    Packet Loss ?

    Hi,

With V22r2 on one side and Prefinal 4 at the other side the WDS-Link works like a charm. Ive set the tx-speed to fix 5.5 on both sides, also the antenna selection on both sides to left, working on channel 1 sofar ! Both sides Panel 19dbi

since V23 ive a problem with packet loss over WDS:
If i change the first router (which is running V22r2) to V23 23/09 (orany V23 related FW) the Link is very unstable, much Packet loss, Pingtimes always over 1000ms

Everyone experienced the same Prob ?

Or, what should i try to get this link stable ? (BTW: Its my longest distance in my network)
BS suggested me to deactivate QOS, this ill try in the evening but i also need QOS for not maxing out my connection !

I know, that it supports ipkg. But ipv6 is a kernel-module and i don't know whether this will run on on this kernel.

Other thing: v23 26092005 dies after some time. I have made a factory reset and flashed the firmware. I than configured all the settings again handmade and after some time my router is not accessible. No web, no telnet and no ping.

However, IPv6 is an essential part of the Internet as ISPs start the switchover. It NEEDS to be in ALL of DD-WRT editions, in my opinion.

Using the Standard version from the 26th:

Client Bridge Mode still does NOT work on V4 hardware:

    - I set it to Bridge and the web interface just becomes incredibly sluggish until it stops working and crashes.

    - only SOMETIMES will I see the AP: MAC ADDRESS(of my main WRT54G) under RATE in STATUS > WIRELESS

    - Even when the AP: MAC ADDRESS shows there I cant ping the other router or anything behind it.

    - When set like that, the home Sys-Info page shows ""(empty value) on the Mode for Wireless info.

-All this done after resetting values to default, flashing firmware and reconfiguring both WRT54Gs, the AP and the Bridge .

Just letting you know I noticed that on last version(23rd) of V23 since trying to use them as client bridge mode.

Regular CLIENT mode does not crash the system for me but doesnt connect to the AP either, nor does it show the AP: MAC ADDRESS line in the STATUS > WIRELESS page.

Thanks for all the work BrainSlayer!

    Ok
    1)
My bug is with the dhcp server..
I will sometimes get a good ip othertimes I will not.(aka windows creates one). if i reset it it will work for a while but not all then i will tweak a bandwidth setting in qos (sharing bandwidth with friends connection)(using version 3 of router WRT54G)
    othertimes i will get
    2)
connection refused... even with good ip (can get out to internet but not access the router..)
also having this problem sometimes too.
    3) http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=8739
tho i don't use a cable connection i am using a client mode of wireless access (using a ethernet bridge).

I did do a clean reboot after install with button punched and reseting it for 30 secs.

    oh and a last question
how do you get client mode working with a shared key or security enabled router(say if my friend decides he doesn't want a open access connection..)
I though security was for access point mode not client.

    thanks for any help ..

That's just the webserver dying every once in a while. Used to do that after you made a backup of your config. Just telnet/ssh into your router and type:

Don't know, Here is what I am doing...

-I am clearing the settings before I flash the firmware.

-Assign IP + subnet mask + gateway to the bridge.

    AP
    IP-192.168.1.2
    SM - 255.255.255.0
    gateway - 192.168.1.1

    Bridge
    IP 192.168.1.3
    SM - 255.255.255.0
    gateway - 192.168.1.1

    Both:
    SSID - my SSID
    channel - 6
Net mode - Mixed(tried on G and B only as well, no luck)

After those settings I disconnect both boxes, then plug them back so they connect but they dont.

The main part that is not clear to me is why the Sys-Info page DOES NOT show the Wireless mode as "Bridge" when set as bridge but does show "AP" and "Client" when set to those settings.

Will being V4 hardware have anything to do with it?

Once again, Thanks so much for all your work!

about the client bridge mode. never set the router ip to the same subnet as your usable network on the bridge itself.
a bridge means normally that the router itself has no network. so set just a static administration ip. a remote wireless administration will not be possible in any way. you can just administrate it from the lan port with the static admin ip. 172.16.1.1 for example.
thats the way you have to use it

nocatsplash can be started with splashd. normally you should also see /tmp/services.out with error messages inside if you did something wrong

Snap! oh well... I had my old WET11 bridge setup like that and it worked fine, I guess there are bridges and there are AP forced to be bridges... :)

I will try this, though, by what you say here then I have to connect whatever will connect to the router in the WAN port and just use the LAN ports for admin? If so then I have been working with the the wrong way for days! DUH!!! will try...

ok, could this be caused by a hardware problem? Hardware version?

I did what you said, kept the router outside the IP range AND I tried to set this through telnet in order to take the web interface out of the equation.

    I followed this instructions:

    http://forum.bsr-clan.de/viewtopic.php?t=1750&highlight=bridge#11522

    Used the commands:
    --------------------------
~ # wl ap 0 <-- this turns off the AP Mode
    ~ # wl wet 1 <-- this turns wireless bridge on (aka WET54 )
    ~ # wl join <SSID> <network key>

after a few seconds the bridge will come up. Set your client PC back to DHCP, and the main router will give you an address. If you need to save your bridge configuration, you can set it to the rc_startup variable like this:

    ~ # nvram set rc_startup="wl ap 0;wl wet 1;wl join <ssid> <key>"
    ~ # nvram commit
--------------------------- (left the <KEY> part out since I am trying without any security first)

And my WRT54G still does the same thing it was doing when using the web interface. Right after all the WET settings are applied, I have the WAN light start blinking VERY fast... CRASH, power light blinking and the WRT54G reboots...the bridge connection is gone.

After that I can connect to via Telnet again and voila! the Mode setting is back to AP...

    oh well.... :(

May it be that the new firmware (v23) does overclock the CPU without being asked? Today I noticed, that my router's CPU runs at 216Mhz.

Could you confirm your set it to client bridge or client router mode?
WEP is still the only option for my client bridge. None of the others works. My AP is WRT54Gv3 and client is WRT54Gv2. Both firmware 27.09.2005 Beta1.

The original newest firmware from linksys does the same, this is because the wireless speed drop/disconnect isseu.

clocked cpu from 200 to 216 will fix that.

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

not it isnt the wireless speed drop issue. its the large file transfer problem which is caused by the ethernet driver

But will this overclock burn down my router?
    And, yes: upnp sill crashes...

    I use the client router mode, I also make a post to explain this (in french) on usenet : "fr.comp.reseaux.sans-fils" subject : "WRT54GS & DD-WRT V23 (AP + Client)". I use 2 WRT54GS 1.1

http had also crash on my AP, I test now the 28.09 release.

Azureus doesn't seem to be crashing the upnp for me anymore, but I'm not convinced it's assigning ports correctly as according to the tracker I'm not connectable when using upnp over forwarding the ports. I'm not all that technical so I couldn't go into more detail unfortunately.

ok in the interest of settling this working CLIENT BRIDGE (WET) mode thing can someone that actually has it working please give a FULL working example of your setup based on an AP IP of 192.168.1.1 , one pc WIRED to the AP with an IP of 192.168.1.10 , 1 PC connected at the CLIENT BRIDGE With and IP of 192.168.1.11,

PLEASE include all gateways and subnet masks, OH and using WPA
feel free to change the PC's / router IP's subnet as BrainSlayer has said BUT ALL PC's should be on the SAME subnet whichever that is

Just flashed in the 9/28 V23 build

    Router #1 - main internet gateway/AP

    WRT54G V3 hardware
    WEP 128 mixed mode

    1) flashed firmware
    2) hard reset
    3) configure all settings

Everything works great - including logging

    4) enable JFFS

JFFS works, logging stops. Also Access restrictions no longer work. I assume iptables are corrupt

    5) start over at step 1 - this time leave JFFS disabled

Everything works - including logging and access restrictions

    6) save config

httpd crashes. After router reboot - logging stops and access restrictions no longer work

    7) start over at step 1 - this time leave JFFS disabled and no save config

Brainslayer - what do you need (nvram dumps, tgz file, etc) to help debug this problem???

    Router #2 WDS distribution node/AP

    WRT54G V2.2

    WEP 128, Mixed Mode

    1) Flashed firmware - no hard reset

    Everything works GREAT

    Router #3 V2 Client Bridge
    WEP 128, G only

    1) flashed firmware - NO reset

    Everything works great

My client bridge works with NO problem. Assigned IP 192.168.1.3, gateway 192.168.1.1 SSID same as #1 and #2, DHCP disabled, local DNS 192.168.1.1

I have 6 computers behind a switch connected to the bridge. Some static IP, some DHCP and some reserved DHCP, no problem

Doesn't work here, which is no surprise. The problem does not appear to be with Azureus ( but with the upnp daemon itself when used with certain versions of iptables.

BTW, while looking into this problem, I came across a nice UPNP Tester tool (different from that previously mentioned) here:
    http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=dstools

It allows you to make most, if not all, of the queries UPNP supports. Needless to say, mapping a port with it also causes upnp to crash.

    Hi,

Mostly enjoying DDWRT 270905 over here on my rev 2.2 WRT54G, big cheers to Brainslayer for some excellent work (particularly liking the QoS)

    BUT

DDNS seems to be broken in this build?

    DDNS server DynDNS.org
    username (correct)
    password (also correct)
    Hostname (correct)

    Internet IP address : 0.0.0.0
    Status : No Internet

Obviously it's mistaken, as I'm posting via said router :)

Also, just noticed this when trying to remote desktop into a machine...

DNSMasq being enabled seems to disable the dDHCP static DHCP, it seems logical that this would occur now that I think about it, and also logical that DNSMasq can replicate the functionality, but I'm somewhat noobish in this regard and have no idea which buttons to mash to accomplish this.

    help/suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

    Nice program...

UPnP works ONLY AFTER I reboot the router and WHILE the program is running whether it be Azureus or some others. So, it looks like UPnP crashes at the initial request or by some other processes.

I am having the same issues with DDNS (dyndns). Shows not connected with an address of 0.0.0.0 but I am obviously connected.

I have a WRT54G v2.2 and there were no problems with dyndns.org. I have had every v23 beta build (except the 22snd. release). So the DDNS code seems to work fine (quite the contrary to upnp).

    I agree with Knight14

DDNS is not working in the most basic configuration - after hard reset.

    Shows WAN IP of 0.0.0.0
