    Hi there,

I made a search in this forum and found that there is not a lot of discussion regarding firmware 4.71.1 (the latest release for WRT54GS v2) and QOS. I would like to know if there is a real benefit from using a third party firmware for VOIP quality, since 4.71.1 already implements QOS.

I look for a simple but efficient solution and would like to learn about preparing a correct setup for my network so that VOIP will be usable for my wife and will prevent conflicts around quality of calls... So this thread is about the prevention of divorce

Yes there is real benfit from using 3rd party firmware the QoS in 3rd party firmwares is more advanced than the official firmware. if you still want the same webgui then use the HyperWRT's Thibor build www.thibor.co.uk. If you want more features than Thibor (and his has quite a few) then go for Tomato or DD-WRT firmwares.

Thank your for your reply. By "more advanced" do you mean that it will increase VOIP quality ? In other words, why is the official Linksys firmware with QoS (like 4.71.1) less efficient than 3rd party firmwares ?
