I've spent a couple months wrestling with this game, which my kids love. Roblox is the source of all evil as far as I'm concerned Upgraded from a 54gl to a Asus N16. Running with a recent Toastman build, with lightly modified QoS rules (disabled Layer7 checks) However, no matter what, my kids can both load up roblox and bring my connection to a standstill. The issue is that it uses no defined ports, opens up as many 0-512k port 80 connections as it can, and also opens up countless other random ports to download vast amounts of data. I can get the 'other' ports (default class to crawl, 1-10% upload, 5-15% download) but then it chokes the 0-512k category. I can limit port 80 connections, but then web browsing is affected. What should I be doing? (oh, and also, I highly recomend roblox for stress-testing QoS rules...)
Roblox is designed to evade any attempt to restrict it. Probably not much you can do. Take the computer away from them or make them follow rules for it's use. Probably be good for them too: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=roblox
If one vice is the same as the next, you should introduce them to Minecraft. Must easier to manage network wise too
They do have minecraft However, they are ages 3 and 7, and though minecraft may be technically superior it can't compete with a webpage of constantly updated new (free) games for them to play with thousands of other kids playing at the same time. Minecraft is fine if you like building things, but interactive gameplay is mostly nonexistant. As a parent, I like that all of roblox gameplay modes are not 'shoot' and 'destroy' also, so I'm inclined to encourage it. Anyway, I've assigned them static IPs and their own class (Crawl), and that seems to work for the moment. Testing it late last night, it's still scarey to see it instantly max out every scrap of connection I give it. Got my max upload/download settings to about 60% of max, crossing fingers.
