    Hello every one,

I am looking for a QoS (preferrably with WiFi capability) router and on one of the forums was advised that a WRT54G(S) with a Sveasoft Firmware is one a of the best afordable solutions. And my research on that brought me here to you :). I am primerally looking to manage trafic for my VoIP, P2P, and other apps that requre a constant WAN connection - like IM and streaming audio and video and such. Of course I would like the alocated bandwidth released if the application is not requesting it (ex. VoIP is not in use).

My first question is if I do decide to get one of the WRT54G which firmware is indeed better ... or at least which would be better for my purposes?

Also if any one knows - are there known better (then WRT54G) QoS solutions out there, perhaps even if more expencive, either from Linksys or others?

Thanks in advence for everyone's time.

    DD-WRT firmware is popular.

As is SveaSoft Alchemy 1.0. But Alchemy is a year or so old and QoS was relatively primitive. It is free though. Worked well enough on my WRT54GS v1.0 unit until I replaced with DD-WRT. Probably would be an issue getting Alchemy onto more recent hardware versions.

You want SveaSoft recent firmware, you have to PAY for Talisman firmware. Firmware is then locked to particular MAC addresses, not portable to replacement routers in event of hardware failure unless you download a new copy programmed for that MAC address.

The increasingly closed-source nature of SveaSoft project and inconveniences drove me away from it. I used to be a big supporter.

There is also HyperWRT, and several others. Check out the other forums!
