QuickVPN Client v1.2.2 Release Note 6/21/2007 (Beta Testing)

    Enhancements:

    1. Support Windows Vista in addition to Windows XP/2000.
    2. Updated the OpenSSL library (libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll) from v0.9.8c to v0.9.8d due to some known vulnerability issues. For more information, please visit http://www.openssl.org/
    3. Fixed an issue with the Status Window showing Tunnel Connected but the tunnel is in fact not established. With v1.1.2 (or newer) QuickVPN client will ping the LAN IP address of the remote QuickVPN server before it shows the tunnel is connected. If the client cannot successfully ping the router's LAN IP within 1 minute, it will pop up a message, asking if the user wants to wait for the connection. Users can choose to wait or quit. This also requires newer firmware on the QuickVPN server side. Currently only RVS4000 v1.1.x and WRV200 v1.0.29 (or newer) support this.
    4. The Help page has been updated to include some descriptions of status and error messages.

    Known Issues:
    1. There is a known issue with Windows XP SP2 Firewall - ICMP packets are always dropped by the Firewall when the Firewall is enabled. The issue will cause the QuickVPN Client not being able to establish a tunnel with the remote QuickVPN Server successfully. Microsoft has released a patch to fix this issue. Once you install the patch, the issue should be resolved.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889527/en-us
    2. QuickVPN Client v1.2.2 has an interop issue with RVS4000 firmware v1.1.09 and v1.1.11 (beta). However, QuickVPN Client v1.2.2 does work with RVS4000 firmware 1.0.x. New RVS4000 firmware will be released to fix the interop issue.
    3. QuickVPN Client v1.2.2 has an interop issue with WRVS4400N firmware v1.0.12, v1.0.13 and v1.0.15 (beta). New firmware will be released to fix the interop issue.

    QuickVPN Client v1.2.2

Tried QuickVPN Client v1.2.2 with Vista Business connecting to 2 diff RV042 routers ( firmware 1.3.7.2 and 1.3.8.2 ) same result with both: Hangs at "Veifying Network: stage.

QuickVPNplus works fine with both routers, any suggestions?

    QVPN and Vista Install Problem

I am really having trouble with QVPN and my new Vista machine. I'm running Vista Ultamite and have downloaded QVPN 1.2.2 beta. I have tried with different priveledges from "Run as Admin" to "Use their recommended" install settings. I can see the "autoinstallgui.exe" running, but it hangs and never completes. Stay at about 50% CPU utilization. Any ideas or pointers would be greatly appreciated. My router is a WRVS4400N...... and I do really like it. thanks -Larry

    Its not 64x

Its for 32bit, I assume, since its not 64.

It came pre-installed with the Dell Inspiron laptop just purchased a month ago. I know its not a 64x machine.

    Thanks,
    Bill

I briefly played with 1.2.2 and had the same issue.
With further testing i found that because of this, see below
You must disable "Block WAN Request" and then the QuickVpn will connect

If the client cannot successfully ping the router's LAN IP within 1 minute, it
will pop up a message, asking if the user wants to wait for the connection

    3. QuickVPN Client v1.2.2 has an interop issue with WRVS4400N firmware v1.0.12, v1.0.13 and v1.0.15 (beta). New firmware will be released to fix the interop issue.

Hi Guys, with this Beta (im not too sure of other versions as this is the only one I can get to connect) but usernames and passwords are stored in clear test in wget_error.txt & wget_stop_error.txt in the install directory. Can some else check this out who is running the beta. Apart from a batch file to delete the 2 files, any other ideas to remove it?

    Cheers,

    Eric.

Its an RV082, sorry i didn't mention it before, I thought it would be a client side issue.

    Cheers

Eric I can confirm from my usage of QVPN that the username/pwd is in clear text within the files. I have raised this finding to the relevant department with Linksys.

Thanks for that Simon, is it something they are going to resolve though?
The company where this is implemented are VERY scurity consious, and have doubts about this software, but dont want to go to something like greenbow.

Also, have you had issues with QVPN profiles not being retained on machines after a reboot?

    Cheers

My WRVS4400N currently has firmware v1.0.12 and I cannot connect with QuickVPN v1.2.2, v1.1.2, or v1.0.4... It worked until a few days ago, and nothing has changed (to my knowledge) since then. Now it just gets stuck at "Verifying Network..." and eventually gives up with "".

From the router admin interface, under Status->VPN Clients, I can see my account connected. Also, under Administration->Log->Local Log (enabled)->View Log:
    Jul 5 15:02:44 - [VPN Log]: "user_rw_rw": route-client output: 0
    and using QuickVPN v1.0.4:
Jul 5 15:22:55 - [VPN Log]: ERROR: "user_rw_rw": pfkey write() of SADB_X_DELFLOW message 6 for flow int.0@0.0.0.0 failed. Errno 14: Bad address

    Any clues?
    Thanks in advance!

About the only thing I can think of is to make sure the client certificate on the router hasn't been re-issued.

    Hope this helps.

    Verifying Network hang (Vista)

Thanks for the heads up, Jeff, to the Beta 1.2.2 release.

I managed to get it installed. FWIW, as Jeff suggested, I needed to delete the UNINSTALL key from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall (search for "Linksys VPN" to find the key and delete the entire key). Then I was able to install 1.2.2.

Unfortunately, that was the end of my success. Against my WRV54G, I get the same "Verifying Network" hang as others report. My router thinks I'm connected (based on the "status" page) but Vista sure doesn't. The Verifying Network message never goes away (not even after 1 minute) and there is definitley not a successful connection.

I tried both ports and AUTO. I'm skipping the Server Certificate message as some have suggested is the correct move in my (Vista / WRV54G) scenario. I look forward to anyone's help!!!

  21. Hi, i have the same problem with RV042 and Vista Home Premium. Verifying Network ...
Is there a solution for it?

    Thanks,
    Patrick

Where is the certificate of the QuickVPN router

So I can install it on my client pc. Keep me posted.

the certificate is exported by a Linksys QuickVPN compatible router which has new firmware with the certificate generator built in to it.

  24. Hey all. I'm having the same problem as many of you. Have an RV082 (firmware 1.3.5) and using the QuickVPN 1.2.2 Beta and Vista Home Premium. I get the Verifying Network message as well.

Is Linksys aware of this issue and if so, is there a "case" open with them already? This must be affecting many...

Thanks for any help or suggestions

I have tested this also with my friend's RV082 and I cannot connect
using a Vista Home Premium PC. I have a WinXP that can connect to it right away. I have disabled firewall and I still cannot connect.
