Is there a particular reason to prevent using 127.0.0.1 as the RADIUS server IP address?

The error message says "Radius Server Address is illegal!"

It may only be a question of elegance but I would like to know.

Yes, there is. The NAS service on the WRT54G doesnt like to give tinyPEAP packets if its listening on the loopback adapter. Why? You've got me there.
