I'm using Satori-4.0 v2.07.1.7sv on a WRT54G v2.0. I went to advanced wireless settings and upped the transmit power from 28 mw to 29. Now I'm wondering, approximately how much more range will I get for each mw of increase? I don't need precision, just some ballpark numbers. I understand that obstructions are going to cut my range way down.

    Thanks a lot!

There might be some sort of formula if you're talking about open space, but since you're probably not, I don't know how people would be able to tell you ahead of time short of testing it. BTW, you should be safe setting the power up farther than that with no worries. I've run mine in the 60s for extended periods and they're still going strong.

I'm running mine at 140mw. Is that too high? I notice that you can go up to 250mw, so I didn't think 140mw was that high.

I would think that'd be way too high. I remember reading on Sveasoft's forums/documentation a long time ago that people generally stopped around 65 to preserve the life of their routers. I'm not sure though.

I have found somewhere between 48 and 64 gets good results for me. Anything more and I am not seeing results, just a waste of power for me. =)

You should be safe (i.e. router not overheating) under 70...

If distance is a concern, you can always go with new antennas
