so far here is what i have done with the newest linksys stock firmware. my router version is v2.2.

    - changed password from to default to one that is alpha/numeric, 10 characters long
    - changed the SSID from default
    - using WPA2 personal(whatever the personal means?)
    - TKIP/AES algorithms
    - shared key again alpha/numeric and 10 characters long (not the same as the router login)
    - enabled MAC address filtering to only allow my machines b/g cards MAC address

if you see anything in my setup that needs addressing plese let me know and i will fix it asap, as this is my first wireless setup.

the problem i am having is that i need more power because the router is in a closet and surrounded by a lot of electrical equipment. when i am in my computer room i have no problems getting 32Mbs-54Mbs, but when i am at the other end of my condo it will drop down to somewhere between 11Mbs-22Mbs, which is fine for websurfing but file transfers take exceptionally long, and i do those quite a bit. i also need to have more port forwarding options as i have used all the ones that are in the stock firmware and need more as i run a http, ftp, bf2, ts servers along with other stuff like vnc, etc.

i woud like a firmware that is extremely reliable because that is my most important concern, followed by the concerns i have listed above.

thanks in advance for your time.

Throughout will only be max 20-22Mbps this is normal on the 54g connection if you want a more stable signal then try Tofu's HyperWRT 6.2 version for the WRT54G

    WRT54G v4.20.8 HyperWRT v2.1 Tofu 6.2

it stays close to the Linksys code however adds telnet, static DHCP, power boost and a few other features.
