    OK really newbie question here.

What is the difference between renew and release (Overview page)? When I hit renew the uptime clock resets. When I hit release the whole thing crashes. Tomato keeps running and I can connect via LAN but the connection to the internet is gone until I reset (recycle power) to the cable modem. Can someone explain this to me? Thanks!

Renew resets the dhcp timer and release, releases the ip and sits idle until you tell it to do something.

Got it, thanks. I was getting thrown off by the word "release." It could mean "re-lease" as in go get a new lease. In Tomato apparently it means "release" as in to let something go. I assume going into the terminal and telling it to renew the wan would get the connection going again. Thanks again.

It isn't just Tomato - it's a term in general use. As in Windows "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew"
