Relocating my WRT54G

I want to relocate my WRT54G from a room to the 2nd floor hallway to increase signal stability as I've been having frequent connection drops. I'm doing this and creating a couple of Ez-12 Parabolic Reflectors to hopefully resolve my connection issue.
I think my only option is to use Cat5 cable to place my WRT54G in the hallway in order to decrease the walls between the clients and the router, resulting in better signal propagation. Where and how do I place the Cat5? Also, what length and brand of Cat5 should I buy?
Since we're on the subject, what else can I use other than card stock as the template for my Windsurfers?
    Thanks everyone.
