I would appreciate any suggestions on what model of 4-Port Ethernet Broadband Router (not wireless) would be a good replacement for my current setup. I am on the Charter 10 Meg plan. If I by pass my current router (D-Link, DI-704) and connect directly by modem to computer, my most recent speed at "" has been around 7.5 Mb/s inbound and 1 Mb outbound, but if I go through my router, I only get 1 Mb both ways. So I assume my problem is with my current router. Any suggestions on a new router that would be compatible with my new modem (Motorola Surfboard Cable – model: SB5101-supplied by Charter) would be appreciated. Easy of setup and dependability is much more of a factor than cost.

check the quality of your cables as well when you use the router. do you need Gigabit ports of 10/100?

I assume the cable are fine, as I am using the same one for both operations.

"do you need Gigabit ports of 10/100?"

Sorry, I don't know what this means.

It means: do you have 1000 Mb connection or just usual ethernet 100 Mb?
