Hi there. I just bought a used linksys wcg200 router from a friend who was moving out of town and wanted to get rid of it. He had a WEP password enabled on the device and told me that all I would need to do to reset the same was to hard reset it by holding down the reset button for 30 seconds or so. This would restore the router to its factory defaults and then I would be able to configure it the way I wanted by going into the control console ( and enabling WEP protection there with a new username and password.

The problem is that I've tried hard resetting the router several times but to no avail. I am still prompted for a WEP password to connect to it and since the guy who sold it to me is not currently reachable, I am at a loss as to what to do.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Connect the PC by Wire, logon and then reset the box. Have you try this?
