Router crash when using broadcast/multicast

I use a Linksys WRH54G wireless router. If I try to use application that sends out boradcast packets (such as video server), the router begin stop responding. If the broadcast traffic is below 1Mbps, the router simply become slow to ping, if I stop the application, router is then back to normal. If I increase the rate, the router stop responding then I lose wireless connection, if I increase the rate more, the router even crash and reboot. I then do a test to send packets to the broadcast address 192.168.1.255, I get the same result. Router crash if the traffic is more than 1.5Mbps.

This issue does not occur to normal internet browsing or downloading. Only occurs when using broadcast. I searched internet and found someone using WRT54G has the same problem.

I cannot believe this router can only handle lower than 1Mbps broadcasting traffic. Does anybody know what the reason is and how to resolve it? Thanks.
