Router doesn't broadcast secure signal

My situation is this. I have an Asus WL-520gu. I flashed the firmware from Asus to DD-WRT (ddwrt v24 mini asus) to Tomato (1.27 NDUSB).

My problem is that I cannot connect or find a wireless signal if I set the security to anything other than unsecured.

Once I change the settings to secured, the signal disappears and I can't find it. I've tried to find it with a Windows 7 PC with internal wireless card, an iphone, a palm pre, and an XP computer

On unsecured, the signal is there and I can connect. Both on broadcast and don't broadcast SSID. On secured, no signal either way. This is for all security settings: WEP, WPAP, WPAE, WPA2 P. WPA2 E, combined, etc. A hardwired connection also works.

Any help? I searched the forum first, but I couldn't find anything. I'd be happy with a link to a former thread that I missed and couldn't locate through search.

    Thanks.

have you reset the nvram after flashing from dd-wrt to tomato? are you using the ND version?

I don't believe I have done that, not sure how. I am interested to hear more. Thanks.

So would I go to Administration > Configuration > Restore Default Configuration > Erase all NVRAM Data?

precisely; and after that, you'll have to re-do your configuration. but i'd claim it's a pretty good guess that your issue might be resolved after that.
