    Hello,

This is my first post here :thumbups:

Ok I have been looking all over for a mod that places a router into a computer case, and I have come to the conclusion that either I am dumb and chacha search is not that great, or no one has done it.

Does anyone know of anyone modding their router into their computer case?
I have a wrt54gs that I would like to place into mine.

    Thanks!

To be quite honest i have no idea why you would want to do this, as no matter what operating system you use it will give you the ability to run that machine as a router. But to each there own, and the reason you have not found it is i dont think it has ever been done.

the only reason I want to do this is so that I no longer have to carry around my router to my LAN parties. I do not want to have the router run off of my computer. I just want it to be in the same case.

Interesting concept, though its probably more work then its worth. There is plenty of room inside most cases where you could mount it and if you couldnt get it all the up to the edge of the case for the ports you could install network ports that connect from your router to the outside of the case. Though i think the easiest way would be to find a way to mount it to the outside of the case then you wouldnt have to worry about figuring out how to get to the ports.

A friend of mine has modded his case to include a switch. It's not a router but almost the same.

Actually using a switch would be a better option for LAN parties anyway. Any place that hosts a LAN will already have a router hooked up to its internet connection most likely. A switch would integrate into existing networks better. And if you don't need internet access all you need is a switch anyway.

I think this is a great idea, I dont have any use for it, but still a cool idea. You probably want a router so you can bring wifi as well?? Then you would also want the router to run off the computer's power supply. Hope you post some pictures when you are finished...
