I can't comment on your follow-on post but I wonder if Hyper-WRT allows you to increase the number of connections through your firewall in the same way that DD-WRT does? BitTorrent punches (in some cases) 1000's of connections through your firewall as it fetches little pieces of a file from sites scattered over the Internet. A typical SOHO router like a Linksys, SMC, D-Link, etc., with standard firmware, will only allow 100's of connections. For example, the standard firmware for the WRT54GS allows a miserly 512 connections. Eventually the firewall will succumb to the load as essentially you are creating a DoS flood. It will become unresponsive.

The biggest problem that those firmware have is that they keep track of those connection for 7 days, thus ensuring the overload of their table.
HyperWRT as well as DD-WRT allow you to change this to mere minutes, a much reasonnable number while using p2p.

Otherwise, the lag can be from the overloading of your connection. Try to enable QoS and set bittorent at the lowest...

yeah <> I just disabled it and went back to the original Linksys FIrmware. What FIRMWARE Do you RECOMMEND FOR A COUNTER STRIKE GAMER , BITTORRENTeR ?
    And the settings

any firmware with conntrack setting and QoS should do the trick
I use p2p and gaming and have very little problem.
Setup QoS so that bittorent or any other p2p are at the lowest priority and that gaming and surfing are at the highest.
