Router slowdown during P2P

I am using a BEFSX41 router using 1.51.00 firmware. My son is a fairly heavy Bittorrent/Limewire user. I have them both tuned down to limit the number of connections however I still occasionally see some severe router slowdown at times. Not sure if it's the router/ firmware of a combination of both. I am in the market to upgrade to a wireless model but not sure of how the current brand of Linksys models handle excessive P2P traffic.
Can anyone say how or whether the 54G, GS or GX models handle this?

Both the G & GS models have extensive P2P bandwidth shaping features when combined with the DD-WRT firmware.
