I have read alot about dd-wrt firmware in WRT54G routers. I am curious if it would allow me to have one router(WRT54G) in one office (with a dBi 14 directional range extending annt), this router would have the internet connection on the WAN. I need this router to share the network over the wireless connection to another WRT54G. is this possible?
What firmware would you suggest? any other suggestions would be great.

If you plan on using a 3rd party firmware (DDWRT, tomato or Thibor), plan on buying a WRT54GL rather than a G. The latest versions (5 and later. Up to 8 lately) are difficult to switch to 3rd party if not impossible and have reduced hardware.

If you use a 3rd party, you can do what you ask, either by configuring the routers as WDS (extend the network AND keep the wireless option) or just treating the 2nd WRT as a wireless client (so, it would NOT repeat the wireless network and would not allow anyone to connect to itself) to connect to the 1st WRT, allowing all computers wired to it to be on the same network as the 1st WRT.

Any of the 3 major 3rd party would be able to achive both results.
