Routing a subnet

I'm wondering if _anyone_ can help...
I've contacted linksys support, and got _nothing_
I have a WAG54G, and an 8 IP subnet from my ISP.
I _know_ there is nothing wrong with the physical link back to the ISP, as I've had it running quite merrily before on both a Zoom X5 modem/router, and a D-Link D804GT.
I bought the WAG54G on the advice of a 'friend', however I've had nothing but trouble since.
For a start, the linksys won't let me assign the same IP to the internal network card as the PPP device gets allocated by the ISP (no biggy!).
Then, I get _exactly_ 30 seconds of connected time before the WAG54G disconnects the DSL line. During those 30 seconds, all 8 IP's work fine.
I know there is no issue with the ISP, as I can swap the linksys out, and presto, _any_ other router works.
I've tried firmwares 1.7, 2.1 and 2.3, _all_ exhibit this behaviour.
If I leave the router in nat'ed mode (ie it's on 192.168.1.1, it works fine, although that kind of defeats the point of having an 8 IP subnet...)
I'm getting close to seeing what happens when the linksys is introduced to my blender...

    Cheers,

    Olly.
