Hi guys, i just got a brand new Intel 5300 wifi mini card, before now i had a Intel 4965 that never conected to Asus RT-N16 with "v1.28.7493 MIPSR2-Toastman-RT K26 USB Ext" at more than 144Mbps, with Intel 5300 and some tweak i get always 300Mbps but Toastman Staus Rate oscilates between 54Mbps to 216Mbps to 300Mbps as shown in my below picks. As 5300 is new for me, do i am missing something to get constant 300Mbps? My lappy is at three feet from RT-N16 and as shown at my Issider pick my signal is clean and strong over the others, and noise is acceptable.
    Rgds.

PD. excuse my picks resolution, were done with my phone a moment ago.

I am using Tomato v1.28 K26 RAF on the same router but with Realtek 8191SU(which supports 300MBps), cannot get more than 150Mbps. The laptop which has the usb wifi is just a meter away from the router. I am using wpa2 personal + aes, channel with 40MHz upper sideband and on channel 11. Will you tell me what tweaks you did to yours in order to get 300Mbps?

As you can see from your scan, you have two wireless signals overlapping your wireless network.

In addition, non-WiFi 2.4Ghz devices, like baby monitors, cordless phones, RC cars/planes/helicopters/etc., won't show up on those scans but will make a serious dent in your performance.

You can only get perfect performance if you have no wireless interference.

Hi teo, I am an Asus and Intel guy so I am not familiar with Realtek also I am on different firm build, but will tell you some general tips that works on most wifi cards and works very nice for me, first of find the latest Realtek 8191 wifi driver, on RT-N16 go to Basic>Network>Wireless Network Mode>Auto, in Advanced>Wireless i have almost everything *Default but Tx Power I have it @ 34, Country Region>United States and WMN>Enable.
Channel 11 and 40 mhz, no security, only Wireless Client Filter activated.
Now comes the 5300 Intel wifi card, 802.11n set @ Auto, 802.11n Mode>Default, Fat Channel Intolerant>Enable, Power Mangement>Highest, Trasmit Power>Deafault Value, Wireless Mode>Default Value.
With all that I get my 300Mbps and solved the rate fluctuation that started this thread by lowering Asus router TX power to 34 from 60.
Hope there is some Realtek guy @ the Forum to get more help.
    Just my 2 cts.
    Rgds

    @mito
our settings are almost the same on Asus except my Network Mode> N only and Transmit Power is 60(I have decreased to 34 , nothing changed so put 60 back) and obviously Realtek wifi adapter settings are different than yours and I believe they are all set. Thanks anyways, I will keep reading and googling more stuff.

The receivers in the routers themselves are also subject to the same problems,.

Don't forget, guys, that a client can be so close to the router that it's receiver overloads with too strong a signal. In cases like this, reducing power may help.

I have seen some wireless clients overload badly even 3 meters away from the router.

Hi Toast, thx, time ago tested what you say, also reduced the Tx power and now everything is stable and fine.

Thanks for the tips Toastman. I tired different distances too(everywhere in the house), still cannot get more than 150Mbps.

Curious question: are you using the latest drivers for the 8191su?

@ teo, pls check with no security, as told before make sure you have the latest driver on card, give a try to Toastman or Shibby firmwares, both antennas at router in "Auto" , Afterburner "Disable" , Frame Burst "Disable and make sure your comp USB speed is ok.
    Hope this help

@lefty, yes I am using the latest driver for 8191su(via realtek website) and have tried on windows, linux and osx.
@mito, advance wireless settings are already default(so exactly what you said) and I am using my USB 2.0 ports and I can say I am sure that usb speed is fine.
@digibur, I set the router 40Mhz but I am not %100 sure I am getting 40Mhz, how did you figure that out?

You may need to use some app like inssider to see if your getting the proper channels, 1 and 11 are edge channels, so they have to be set properly to use HT40.

It may have been mentioned but make sure your other device is set accept 40mhz too. I know several Intel drivers come set to 20mhz only on 2.4 sides.

@teo, I use Issider and router at channel 11 with 40mhz so inssider shows my wifi from channel 9 to channel 15, so check yours.
@digiblur, yes my Intel 5300 came as you said but I tuned a little son now I have 40mhz, fortunatelly have no wifi nighbors very close, if so, they will hate my almost 6 channels use! That is why Intel cards come set to 20mhz, imagine wifi a crouded environment all with 40mhz! That is what happens at my job's warehouse so I use a Linsys wrt600n that has 5Ghz band so nobody has that router frequency.

thanks for the thoughts guys, appreciated a lot.
@digiblur, if it comes with default 20mhzI am not sure that I have an option to setup the wifi card to 40Mhz but i will look into it.
@mito, today I am messing up with inssider and will let you know if I come across with something.
@lefty, I kinda have to use the channel 11 because the houses around me all use 6&9 so that is why I chose 11.

Channel 9 interferes with channels 6 and 11 ... I wonder what genius put them all on channel 9?
