RT-N16 'NG Mixed' mode possible? (Poor performance in 'Auto' mode)

Is there any way to configure the RT-N16 to permit only G and N client connections? I want to replace one of my WRT54GL slaves with a new RT-N16, while leaving the other slaves unaffected for the time being. As a first step, I changed the wireless network mode on the main RT-N16 from 'G only' to 'Auto', but when all the WDS slaves reconnected performance was horrible. Main overview page showed rate = 5.5 Mbps, and it never budged from that value. TX rate for the slaves never went over 6. I'm thinking that maybe a rogue B device was dragging everything down. I reverted to 'G Only' and all was good again, but that doesn't help the long-term goal.

The DD-WRT wiki lists 'NG-mixed' as a valid setting, so even though it's not a Toastman GUI option I'm wondering if there's a way to accomplish this with Toastman builds, by tweaking a combination of nvram settings e.g. wl0_gmode, wl0_nmode, wl0_net_mode etc. Has anyone tried this?

See my sig for current firmware versions.

I'm also curious to see if this is possible. Anyone have some insight?

My suggestion is to first test RT-N 0501.2-jya to se if your performance is getting better.
RT-N working greate to my RT-N16 and I have useed it for a long time, but not in WDS mode.
