Afaik the RV016 and RV082 will have simialr fixes. i will ask linksys when they expect this firmware to be official or beta so i can release it.

    RV042 Firmware v1.3.7.9 Release Note

    New Features:

    1. Support Paid Custom DNS for dyndns.org. A Custom DNS checkbox is displayed on Setup->DDNS->DynDNS.org page.
    2. Support IPSec NAT Traversal in both Gateway-to-gateway and Client-to-gateway modes.

    Issues Fixed:

    1. Fix the "Selective Acks Off" issue that affects performance.
    2. Fix the issue with saving a pre-shared key with apostrophe.
    3. Fix the subnet mask issue. Remark: In previous firmware, when the router's subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.192,
255.255.255.224, 255.255.255.240, 255.255.255.248, or 255.255.255.252, you will no longer be able to change the
    subnet back to 255.255.255.0.
    4. Restrict the Dynamic IP Range in DHCP Server Configuration to be in accordance with the LAN IP and Subnet Mask
configuration of RV router. For Example, when LAN IP/Mask = 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.128, the DHCP IP Range
the user can configure will be restricted to the range of 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.126.
    5. Fixed a PPTP Server problem that failed to establish PPTP connection when DMZ Host enabled.
    6. Disallow users to set x.x.x.0 in the LAN IP address field.
    7. Update the on-line help of VPN Client Access (QuickVPN) Setting.
    8. Modified the alert message as the following when enabling Remote Management.
    (1) When https is enabled, remote management enabled, and password being the default password,
    Message:
The Router is currently set to its default password. As a security measure, you must change the password
before the Remote Management feature can be enabled. Press "OK" to change your password, or press "Cancel"
to leave the Remote Management feature disabled.
    (2) When https is disabled, remote management enabled, and password being the default password,
    Message:
Please be warned that once remote management is enabled, it will be safer to remotely administer the router
by https on port 443 instead of http. The Router is currently set to its default password.
As a security measure, you must change the password before the Remote Management feature can be enabled.
Press "OK" to change your password, or press "Cancel" to leave the Remote Management feature disabled.
    9. RV042 will listen to ports 443 and 60443 for QuickVPN connection. Remark: Earlier firmware only listens to port 443.

    RV042, RV082, RV082 Bug with second subnet

All RV042, RV082, RV16 have bug, which was not allow the second subnet to connect to the Internet.
I had informed LINKSYS supporters from November 2005, but till now this bug still not solved yet !!!

The scenarios was as follow :

01 RV082 connect to the Internet via PPPoE, with LAN 10.1.1.1 Mask 255.255.255.0, and Working Mode -> Gateway (NAT)

The second RV042 with LAN 192.168.1.1 mask 255.255.255.0 with WAN1 enable with Static IP 10.1.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway : 10.1.1.1. This WAN1 port connect to the LAN port of about RV082
(I have disable the Firewall in RV042)

If I setup Working Mode for RV042 as default (Gateway) then from second network (192.168.1.0) PC can connect to the Internet and to PC in first network (10.1.1.0), but PCs from First network (10.1.1.0) will not able to connect to second network (because of NAT) -> it is OK

If I setup working Mode for RV042 to Router, the client from first and second network (10.1.1.0 and 192.168.1.0) can connect to each other OK (I test with adding static routing or enable RIP v2.0) but the PCs from second network (192.168.1.0) was unable to connect to the Internet. (PCs from first network still able to connect to Internet normally)

When I try to ping or tracert Internet Host( for example yahoo.com) at PC from second network (192.168.1.0) the name server was resolve OK, but ping and tracert failed.

(The tracert just show the first trace, which is RV082 Router and then timeout)

If we change the first Router to use WRT54G, then the PCs in the second subnet are working fine when the second Router in Gateway and Routing mode !!!

    Bugfixes RV042

    Hi,

-NAT-T support would be fine for me too
-PPTP-Server didn't work right for me (could connect without credentials in latest release)
-change of Quickvpn-Port to 60443 is necessary for me because I need 443 for other obvious reasons (QVPN 1.0.40 suppports this but RV042 does not as you know)

none of these issues were confirmed by linksys support...

Would be nice to see this as a download as soon as it's ready

    Add-Ons

Did they mention anything about add-ons or additional features.

If they simply added a few things to the interface, or statistical information, it would be great. For my purposes I wish they would provide usage statistics based on IP. I have every user locked into an IP with static DHCP. As I see it, if they would tally the usage at the end of a NAT session, it would neither be difficult or resource hungry. In the telnet console interface, the operating system already tallies the usage of each session, as visible in "rgpf_info".

I made a suggestion for that feature in the live chat tech support. They assured me that the engineers would see the request. If anyone else want the ability to see per IP usage, I guess do the same and suggest the feature.

    Hey Toxic,

Any word on when the beta firmware will be available? I contacted Linksys tech support last week and they had no useful information.

    Thanks again.

Linksys tech support wont have any information on alpha code.

The linksys Alpha code is unfinished firmware, ie snapshots of features added and/or bugs being fixed. so far all i know it is STILL an alpha firmware, and being tested internally.

it will be out, when it is ready.

    @Toxic
I'm currently struggling also this damned NAT problem.
All Computer in the same subnet with the RV042 Gateway do well (192.168.1.x) but from the other subnets 192.168.2.x and 192.168.3.x have no direct Inet acces anymore.

Routing is ok, i added static routes for .2 and .3 via 192.168.1.2 gateway
In the old configuration as router it worked ok but we had to switch to gateway mode because off different inet access hardware

both .2 and .3 networks need to know where the gateway is. have you setup routes in the other networks to point the gatway to 192.168.1.1 ? I take it .2 is a "gateway" for .3 ? (a gateway really is the router that is connected to the net.)

if you have other routers, connected to the RV042, you need to make sure the other routers are in ROUTER mode and not gateway mode. you may also be require to setup staic routing for these or enable RIP on all routers they should then send relevant routing information to each other.

Updated initial post with v1.3.7.9 alpha code. The firmware is not however for public consumption at this time. I will update this thread again if new code is developed and/or it goes to beta or official release.

    Hi,

any information about the work on the fw for the RV082?
I went back to v1.1.6.14 as I had some problems (speed and VPN stability) with v1.3.2.
