On the DHCP configuration page of the RV042, there's some indication that one can "reserve" IP addresses for specific clients using MAC addresses. Yet the help file, with it's translated Chinese to English explanation is confusing..

    Static IP
The administrator can assign the Static IP for the specific client based on this user’s MAC address. Enter the Static IP Address, MAC Address and Name, and you can check the box to enable this rule or not. The administrator can configure the Static IP Address as with the specific MAC, so the computer with this MAC can get IP address from RV042 DHCP server but with Static IP. Once complete the rule setup, click the Add to list button. You can set up to 100 static IP entries.

So.. If I want a specific client to always get a certain IP address, is this telling me to enter and the mac address and the client will always get the same IP from the DHCP server? OR ... shall I enter the IP address I want the client to have and the MAC address.. That underlined statement above is a mouthfull

To assign an IP address to a client via this interface , what do I enter in:

Static IP Address: (is this or what)
Name: Is this the netbios machine name, or any random name to differiantiate the various clients?

Wow..never read that before..just dove right in. Agree...odd wording.

Take PCs MAC..enter it..select the IP you want (example.. it a name (Marys)..save settings..done.
