RV042 random reboots

My ISP replaced our leased Netopia R910 with a Linksys RV042 (with customed patched v1.3.2.20 firmware) when I upgraded my DSL line. Now this RV042 randomly reboots itself (every 5-10 mins in the worst case scenario).

I've had them swapped in a another RV042, and reconfigure all the ports to 10BaseT half-duplex, and the problem still hasn't went away.

Can anyone help me to locate some resources regarding the random reboot issue?

I've just read about the possibility of overheating so I'm now putting the RV042 next to the other network devices (instead of sandwiched in a stack of modem and WiFi router), standing on its side. Hopefully things will improve.

Ahh an R910...I had one of those for quite a while..awesome router.

What is this "custom firmware"? ISP proprietary firmware for their CPE?

First thing I would do...factory reset, and flash to the latest firmware. But you may have your hands tied in being able to do that.

I also always prefer to have all network equipment, including modems/routers, on an APC battery backup unit.

I keep a fan on my 042 and the rest of my switching, without the fan it gets to a temp I find unacceptable. Never noticed it being unstable though. Had it for well over a year and has never gone down.
