I would firstly replace the cables. then reset the router back to factory defaults, and reset the MTU to 1500. then reboot the router. I myself have a 10Mbs cable service and get the full 10Mbs download with the rv042.

i'm load balanceing 2 tombit connections on this router and getting 20mbit solid with no problems, so 6mbit should be no problem.

maybe update the firmware ? reset to defaults and try again ?

    Good luck.

    Also try using different cables.

using 1.3.7.10 firmware, and a (tested and working fine) cat 5e cable to my Verizon fios Source, I am getting 15Mb/s download speed with my rv042 with factory defualt settings. Setting mtu to manual/1500 seems to make things even snappier.
consider replacing your cable. Also check to see if their is some kind of screwy auto-negotiation issue between your rv042 and whatever is on the other end. Try hard coating the line speed to whatever is on the other side instead of auto-negotiate. There is a hidden page where you can set the line speed and duplex at http://<your router ip addr here>/lan_setting.htm
for me, the verizon fios source line is set to 100/Full, so I hard coated my rv042 to 100/Full, and it works great!

Do you know of any other hidden pages on that router?

You can also use this hidden page to set port priority. It works for me perfectly. I no longer have to ask my son to stop downloading when I VPN to my office to update a spreadsheet on a shared network drive. In this case, the port-based QoS works better than the application-based QoS.

Thanks for the info on the extra page, rather useful.
