RV042 support for PPPOA connections?

    Hi There,
I live in New Zealand and bought the RV042 hoping it would be simple to setup and for the users to connect to using the QuickVPN utility.
In NZ we connect to DSL using PPPOA not PPPOE so I cant use RV042 to establish the DSL connection and that means I cant use the QuickVPN utility.

Does anyone know how simple it would be to add a PPPOA dialer to the RV042 firmware and if Linksys have any intentions of doing this?

    Thanks in advance,
    Phil

You could probably look at getting the Linksys ADSL2MUE. This is a PPPoA device you can put into "bridge mode" and then it will perform like a plain modem:

From there, the PPPoA transmission is passed directly to the RV042. At that point, you now just need to set the RV042 to "PPPoE" (yes, I said it :) ) and enter the username/password that your ISP gave you; provided you don't have to fill in any additional information such as ipaddress/subnet/gateway (unless you know it) you would be able to reboot and get online.

Ideally, you just need to find a good ADSL "ethernet" modem and your problem is solved.

Here's the main link of the adsl device review page if you're interested in the other ADSL devices available:

Hi Phil ... I also have an Linksys RV042 and a Linksys ADSL modem .... and trying to make it work with NZ ADSL using PPPoA seems to be impossible. Just wondering if you've figured out how to do this using your RV042?

Set you Linksys modem to bridge and save settings, connect the Lan port of the Linksys modem to the Wan port of the RV042, connect the ADSL port of the Linksys modem to the ADSL Line. On the RV042 choose PPPOe and enter your username and password for ADSL. Click connect.
