RVL200 and PPTP Passthrough Problems

Anyone had any issues with PPTP connections to a server on the LAN side of a RVL200? My RV042 works fine, the RVL200 seems to not allow the traffic to passthrough although passthrough is enabled and TCP1723 forwarded to the server... Details:

    RVL200, v1.0.14
    Static WAN IP
PPTP passthrough enabled under IPSec VPN
TCP 1723 Port forwarded to server

VPN connections sits on verifying username/password.

If I hook up the RV042 with the above settings, flies right through. Suggestions anyone?

do you get any policy violations in the logfiles at all?

I see you've port forwarded TCP 1723 to the server, but what about IP protocol 47 (GRE)? Without GRE also being 'port' forwarded to your server, PPTP should not be able to work for inbound connections (WAN to LAN) no matter what router you're using. The fact that it works without GRE being forwarded with the RV042 is more interesting to me than your current problem with the RVL200.

I get that but there are no settings to forward gre on these routers. I see errors on the server log that it cannot negotiate the request because gre is not being passed. why is this a problem with a vpn router at all? that's why you get these. my WRT54G and befsr41 pass gre and its not a vpn router, but a vpn business class router does not? the rv042 works fine.

GRE is not a port. it is an IP Protocol there is a misconception amoungst alot of user with port forwarding of so called 47, 50 and 51 ports'

I will explain for this article the requirements of port forwarding from Toms Networking example:

    .

I know there a new feature being added to the RVL200 to support "PPTP Passthrough supports multiple sessions" so maybe this will fix your issue once it has been released. this is due for release sometime in december.

I'm well aware GRE is not a port, that's why I identified it as 'IP protocol 47 (GRE)' in my post and put the single quotes around 'port' forwarding. I only used the term 'port' forwarding with respect to GRE, since the vast majority of consumer/sme class routers include the ability to pass IP Protocols within the 'Port Forwarding' areas of their interfaces.

Keeping it friendly guys, thank you both for the replies. I think we are all set on the protocols and ports. What I am interested in getting help on is why I cannot get GRE through this router. Unless there is some hidden setting, I'm at a loss. I just reset it and will try the syslog Simon mentioned to see what the router sees. I'll reply with results from that shortly...

Please contact Linksys Support for the fix on the PPTP problem, apparently there is a firmware already out for this but it is being issued by tech support.

    *Friendly Interjection* :)

The reason why GRE won't pass thru is because the RVL200 "is not" GRE/NAT-T compliant. The NAT-T/GRE compliant routers are the RV0xx series and the WRV200 (I'm currently running a 2003 vpn server behind my WRV200).

You have to be kidding me... A business class VPN router is not GRE/Nat-T compliant? PPTP passthrough is an option and it does not work? I'm on hold with Linksys, but how can this be?

would be nice if linksys Tech support actually gave you the file in the first place. I know of others who are "waiting" for a file that tech support already have.

Sorry to drag an old post out of the bottom of the forums, but i have the same issues with an RVL 200 router, it's running 1.1.7 but it's still having PPTP passthrough issues. Anyone have any recommendation other then to file it under G?

    Same issue

    RVL200 is not passing GRE.

Unable to use this "Business Class VPN router" because the PPTP passthrough does not work. Am also using firmware v1.1.7 - the only version available on the support site.

    Unacceptable

Upgraded to the 1.1.10.1 firmware available here, reset to factory defaults and reconfigured.

    Still no luck.

Reverted to 1.1.7. About to have to replace this router with one that can do the job.
