*** THIS IS BETA FIRMWARE. USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK ***

    RVS4000 Firmware v1.1.11 Release Note

    6/13/2007 (beta testing)

***Due to the new features supported in this new firmware, the configuration files of earlier firmware (i.e. v1.0.x) cannot be used after the firmware is upgraded to v1.1.x. Please reset the router to factory default after upgrading the firmware and configure the router from scratch. In case you want to revert the firmware back to earlier firmware, it is recommended that you first export the current configuration before upgrading the firmware.***

    New Features:

    1. Support Auto 6to4 - no need to specify the IP addresses of 6to4 gateways.
    2. Allow SIP Application Layer Gateway (ALG) to be enabled/disabled on the Firewall->Basic page. (Note: SIP ALG can be enabled to facilitate the SIP packets traversing the NAT/Firewall. This feature can be disabled when the VoIP service provider is using other NAT Traversal solutions such as STUN, TURN, and ICE.)

    Issues Fixed:

    1. Fixed an issue with Bandwidth Management causing the router to crash.
    2. Fixed some performance issues with firmware v1.1.09.
    3. Introduced Tagged mode and Untagged mode in the VLAN Port Setting page. (Removed General mode and Access mode.)
    4. Added a warning message that will pop up upon adding a QVPN user if the router's LAN IP is the default 192.168.1.1.
    5. Fixed an issue that DHCPv6 client cannot get an IP address from the DHCPv6 server.
    6. Allow DHCP Static IP addresses to be assigned outside the address pool of the DHCP Server.
    7. Increased the idle timeout of the Web Admin Interface from 5 minutes to 15 minutes.
    8. Updated the Daylight Saving feature. Beginning in 2007, the effective dates for Daylight Savings Time (DST) in the United States and Canada changed. The period of Daylight Savings Time will be 4 weeks longer than before - beginning 3 weeks earlier in Spring and ending 1 week later in Fall. DST will now begin on the second Sunday in March (March 11, 2007) and end on the first Sunday in November (November 4, 2007).

    Known Issues:

    1. There is a known issue with Windows XP SP2 Firewall - ICMP packets are always dropped by the Firewall when the Firewall is enabled. The issue will cause the QuickVPN Client not being able to establish a tunnel with the remote QuickVPN Server successfully. Microsoft has released a patch to fix this issue. Once you install the patch, the issue should be resolved.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889527/en-us

    2. There is a known issue with SIP ALG, which may block the incoming VoIP calls. Outbound calls from VoIP phones in the LAN can be made without problems.

Download the frmware here: http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=56 or contact Linksys Tech Support

Wow, sounds very nice. They even addressed an issue I posted about, #6 :D

Known issue #2 worries me though with vonage. I guess I'll backup my configuration and try this. I'll let everyone know in the morning.

Very nice to see a new firmware coming out for the RVS4000, hopefully it fixes the issues in Firefox with Java scripting errors and such also. I'll test out the firmware later tomorrow.

What would be nice is if we could set DHCP ranges and custom subnets. Afterall, this is a business class router. However, some of us, like me use it for large lan events (nearing to peak out the DHCP leases).

In addition, I wish that the routers syslog would also have the options to also send notices of LAN to LAN, WAN to LAN, LAN to WAN settings. Rather than to what it seems LAN to WAN. However, syslog only reports very little of the router stuff. I know the FVS114 from net gear has some REALLY nice sys logging features, and it's something that i wished the RVS4000 had. Comes in handy if you need to pin point a security issue on a LAN. this is the same story for the RVS4000's firewall, it barely ever sends a notice to the syslog client... :(

RVS4000 Beta Firmware Rescue Utility Released

    RVS4000 Firmware Rescue Utility v1.1.11

    6/14/2007 (beta testing)

This is a firmware rescue utility, which contains the RVS4000 firmware v1.1.11. The utility should be used when the normal firmware upgrade mechanism through the Web Admin interface fails and the DIAG LED is blinking. The utility uses a layer-2 protocol to upload the firmware to RVS4000, thus there is no need to set a static ip address on the computer running this utility. However, it is required to disconnect all other network cables to the router including WAN and LAN ports.

RVS4000 Beta Firmware v1.1.11 Released - Bug Reporting

    Hi,

I'm trying to do a "QoS Bandwidth Management" on SIP port 5060, under 'Bandwidth Management' -> 'Rate Control'.

If I click on the "more...' for help, located on the middle right of the GUI, its states:

    IP:
Enter the IP Address or IP range you need to control. The default is zero which includes all internal IP addresses.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I did enter the default "0", "00", "000" - they reply me "Invalid IP address" ???

Please correct me if i am wrong or tell me how to enable IP range or all internal IP addess for Rate control on UDP port 5060.

    ##################################################

VPN Client not able to connect when place behind RVS4000
    ---------------------------------------------------------

Another problem that I am facing is that when I am trying to connect to my Company's VPN, I do not seem to get reply. I suspect that something is blocking my incomming traffic.

In the RVS4000 "Outgoing Logs", i see somthing like "ESP PAcket" sending to my company's VPN server.

Pls advice on what settings i have to set or look out for.

    Regards,

    SayYong

Found a bug in the port forwarding. If there is already a record in the list, and all you do is change the IP to another line, the changes do not take effect until you do it a couple more times. In addition, there is a memory leak on the SNMP / SysLog part of the router. Earlier today I was watching syslog and got this error: Jun 23 00:12:11 - Out of Memory: Killed process 22919 (snmp). So there is definitely a memory leak with the new beta firmware. Had to restart it since syslog and SNMP quit sending out messages after that was sent out oddly enough.

Hmm, checking my email log here, before i got this one: Jun 22 07:12:06 - [VPN Log]:g]:t of Memory: Killed process 22917 (pluto).

Wow, 3rd edit, found another one: Jun 23 02:15:30 - Out of Memory: Killed process 27406 (rc).

Seems to be happening all at different times, killing random PID's. I like this one the best: Jun 22 08:23:01 - Out of Memory: Killed process 23273 (setup.cgi). that was when the router quit responding to me and had to restart it... :|

Reboot under administration screen in firefox is warped. Bad width.

I have noticed several models of Linksys hardware seems to have minor flaws within the WebGui and compatability with Firefox.

Can't access VPN using ESP (IP Protocol 50)

    Hello,

I cannot seem to get any connection to my Company's VPN with RVS4000.

If i use a WRT54G v2, i have no issues and do not need to "port forward" or "trigger port"

With RVS4000, i cannot get connection to my Company's VPN. Can someone tell me if "ESP (IP Protocol 50)" is SUPPORTED in the RVS4000 Firmware v1.1.11??????

I really want to use the RVS4000 as it suppose to replace my WRT54Gv2

    HELP HELP!!!

    This change:

Work great and is much appreciated!

Although, adding a static ip map in firefox does not work, you get a javascript error. Work ok in IE, which is how I set it and tested it.

I haven't fooled with too much other stuff, just general settings, but overall looks good and I'm happy to report I have no issues with vonage.

    Toxic, Thanks!
    - installed today
    - updated IPS sig to v1.26
    - operating nominally for 3hrs now
    - VPNs not config'ed yet
    - appears screen refresh is a bit faster....

Wait until you get a memory leak and than everything on this firmware all slooooows down! I am guessing there will be another firmware for this anyhow before it goes final.

    bctrainers,
    - yeah, read your previous post and have been locally checking for similar syslog "killed" messages
    - unit installed in simple home network in gateway mode
    - purchased mainly for "LAN side" jumbo support
    - QoS, SIP, SNMP, P2P/IM and email notification are not enabled
    - not enough features enabled to tap memory enough to cause leaks, I think.....

Hey, I took some time to look back through some bugs I reported for the last beta firmware, which is now the production firmware.

    This:

Is no longer an issue :)

    This:

    Is also fixed now :D

    This:

    Is fixed too :D

I'm sad to report that the layout issues still show up here and there though, in both IE and firefox. For instance, the main page when you first login, at a high resolution like 1600 x 1200, gets stretched and the right column bg image repeats. If they could just keep the main div from stretching at high resolutions this wouldn't be a problem. I have to say though, this issue is the LEAST of my worries and I don't really care if they fix it.

And that's all I've got for now. Hopefully they fix that small js bug in firefox when adding static ip maps, before they release a final version to the public.

    Thanks again linksys and linksysinfo.org!

    Still have issues

Downloaded 1.1.11, (been using 1.0.15 because of inability for the RVS to get an IP address from my ISP Comcast with 1.1.09) gets IP address now no problems with this beta. However, I am still having issues with slowdowns and my Polycom VOIP phone with Aptela service doesn't seem to like it much either. I would notice that I could change settings and then the GUI interface would slow way down and then internet wouldn't work anymore. A router reboot seemed to do the trick, but then eventually it would slow down again.

I know this is beta and hopefully my input helps. I did a router reset and started from scratch as suggested but that didn't seem to help.

    Thanks

Be careful with this firmware, it bricked my RVS4000 completely. I now have the well known blinking POWER/DIAG. Nothing unusual happened during the upgrade, but after it tried to reboot it was bricked. I used IE7 and no firewall software on the computer i tried to upgrade from.

By the way the "Firmware Rescue Utility v1.1.11" is not very useful. If you have a bad flash the utility will show that your current version is Vf.f.ff and you are not allowed to upgrade from Vf.f.ff to V1.1.11.

If anyone have a solution to this problem I would really appreciate it!

Did you connect your PC direct to device? only you pc? no wan cable connected and no any other lan pcs?
It is safe to connect ONLY one PC to device LAN cable and do upgrade.

Yes I followed the instructions exactly. No extra cables were attached. Only one computer with the ethernet cable in LAN port number 1.

    RVS4000 1.1.11 Beta Firmware Bug

With 1.1.11 port forwarding was not working, I tried every setting and also restoring to facotry default no dice, I downloaded the 1.1.09 back down from the Linksys website and port forwarding works fine again, I run my own web server www.w4lny.com so I hve port 80 enabled to forward to my server on my LAN side.

This appears to be a bug in the beta firmware I hope they fix it..

    bctrainers LI Guru Member

This is a known bug. you will need to go to another page than back to the port foreward and submit it again, as that is the only work around it seems. :)

  24. david803sc

    david803sc LI Guru Member

That didn't work for me, I tried that but the interface would freeze up on me and I would have to power cycle the router, back on 1.1.09 and everything is fine again.

What's your WAN connection method? I use DHCP and PPPoE, both of them can work. Could you attach your config file?

  26. david803sc

    david803sc LI Guru Member

I use DHCP, no matter what I did I could not get port forwarding to work with the beta version 1.1.11 I had to go back to 1.1.09 to get it to work now it works fine, We know there is a bug in the firmware and some have a work around my guess is since I am using a MAC and Safari to access the router that the workaround only works with a WIndows PC and Internet Expolrer.

  30. mwunder

    mwunder LI Guru Member

Well, with IPS enabled I got a medium or something similar warning on my Xbox 360, with it off it stated open. I figured that I wanted to avoid any issues and open was safer.

I am not sure if that is the exact terminology the Xbox uses, but it was something similar when testing the network connection.

Thanks...yes any new beta firmware? Surprised this is taking so long, especially with the issue 09 has with acquiring an IP address with some routers. I was on tech support the first time for 2 hours with them having me do the same thing over and over and over and...you get the picture.

    RVS4000 Open Port

After upgrading the firmware on the RVS4000 to version 1.1.11, I now have an open port that is showing up when I run a port scan (port 5190). This port was not opened before I updated it, and there are no rules in the firewall or port forwards that would allow this port to be open. Does anyone else have this port open?

Yup, I see port 5190 open on my router. It appears its a port AOL uses, hrm.

    This should be fixed!

Does this firmware work with QuickVPN 1.2.5?

Does this firmware work with QuickVPN 1.2.5?

The release firmware and release quickvpn are not compatible right now. I'm really unsure how Linksys can sell a vpn product without the basic functionality working... Probably some legal clause saying that only basic functionality of routing is guaranteed...

Yo Toxic, hook us up! :D

Regarding the issues people were posting about port forwarding ... I just recently started using port forwarding with this beta firmware and am experiencing issues as well, but a little different.

First off, I'm on a windows xp machine, and I get the same behavior in IE and Firefox. When I set a new single port forward, or just change an existing one, my router disappears for about 1 - 2 minutes. It's right when I click to save the port forward changes. To me, it seems like the router is rebooting (usually takes about 1 - 2 minutes) but it's not showing that in the interface. Anyway, after I can get connected to the router again (no intervention required, just simply wait it out) everything is fine, and the port forwarding changes I made were saved and work.

Hopefully this is fixed in the next firmware. Port forwarding is such a basic feature that a lot of folks need.
